Can anyone still get away with playing deep tunes in a club?

the techno-approach of djing is for my taste the best one. you can, as a listener, totally dive into the sound and the dj just takes you from one chune to the next with long fades from one to the other... as long as it fits together of course...

I like mixing this way too, but an entire set of long fades is boring imho, variety extends to mixing techniques as well

How depressing is it that once you start Djing dubstep tunes, you have to start catering to the masses in a way. I don't even understand how a deeper track could clear a dancefloor, most of them tunes are perfect for a dark room, good soundsystem..bass pounding ya. Sounds good to me.

Depends who is playing and where they are playing - obviously djs who produce deep and are known for playing deep are going to get a lot more gigs with audiences who appreciate that sound (or at least promoters who understand the need for a good soundsystem which complements the music) than most non producing djs

Its not difficult to get away with playing a lot of deep tunes in a set if you mix things up, best to plan your mix though
as tune selection and mixing between styles can be more challenging than mixing tunes of the same kind so its important to keymatch where possible. I think if you like a tune but your not sure if its right for the dancefloor try to find a way to mix it that keeps it sounding lively or if you have the skills do a remix of it.

deep tunes work well for shows where there is re-entry allowed, its just a nice chill vibe. that way its not like their forcing you to listen to something that you may not like and feel like you just wasted a ticket. a more casual atmosphere works better for the deep music

I'd love for people to play deep in clubs near me...probably won't happen. While I only DJ in the bedroom, it'd be nice if I ever got good enough to push the deeper sound in areas around me. I think a good mixture is all thats needed, I think I have a fairly big selection of tunes that it wouldn't always be the same.

Yea its a shame these tracks clear a dance floor. but iv seen it happen so many times. my view is this will only change if sub genres get introduced, slate me for bringing it up but the range of dubstep now is so vast most people go to raves dependant on the high energy jump up style but theres still a huge following of the deeper tunes, i would actually love to go to a pure deep night, maybe one day

ya, there's actually a night i frequent round here called ''extreme chill''..just a midweek event featuring some deeper tunage (not necessarily all dubstep) anywho..it's always empty, just friends of the DJ really. lol

there are defintely nights on the deeper flex, it's just not like they have "deep dubstep" on the flyer.

just find "future bass" on a flyer with a good aesthetic

Agree, I combine long fades with switching tracks on the drop myself.

i believe the deep tunes should work in most clubs, as long as the sub bass is extremely clean and well pronounced.

play etched headplate or endorphin on a big system!!!

Right, course you can put deep tunes in your club sets, same as garage, grime, whatever you wanna mix in
if you can keep the crowd engaged with the way you do it, there literally isnt any limit on what you can play
you just have to be creative about how you put them together

Ofcourse you can play anythin as long as you dont take a month to mix the next tune an its all about mixing up styles anyway!! keeps things interesting! well maybe thats just me

Like i said its all about mixing up the styles an that includes the way you mix as well!!

The approach to djing u mention has its place in an genre of music i just dont think you should limit yourself to one style of mixing!
