I can't stand all of these college / bar dj's that think they're the shit just because they use serato and can't beatmatch.

Being one of those "orchestral" people... I can say quite truthfully that most of us don't get mad, we just don't pay attention to other genres till there is something worth listening to.nylle wrote:i wonder if people who play in orchestras get pissed at people who only produce electronic music

most of them cannot mix for shit on wax?:) seriously sloppy mixing by most of the big names.wub wrote:serox wrote:

How do you mean?
serox wrote:Anyone who says DJ is easy because they learned how to beat match in a week clearly has not got a clue. Some of my favourite DJs have been at it 20 years and are still improving how quick and slick they can do things! To get to the top level of mixing where a DJ can do an hour set that sounds like it was mixed by a computer (ie you hear no platter touching, only VERY small pitch changes that you cannot hear, tracks mixed in the right bars, no sudden moves on ANY faders and NO mistakes at all) takes close to 10 years to master.
I think the scene could do with a few more Youngsters behind the decks. He stands out way ahead of any of the other big names by years. His technical skills are spot on and his record selection/flow is serious. If we were playing trumps with Dubstep DJS he would be the card all the kids wanted because he wipes the floor with everyone.wub wrote:serox wrote:Anyone who says DJ is easy because they learned how to beat match in a week clearly has not got a clue. So it's less that the scene is desperate for DJs, but DJs who in your view are better than competent?

Vynl will be gone eventually and everything will be digital, so why are people so bent on preserving an archaic and more expensive methodology of djing music? I suppose my point is that the Djing is less of an art to me than making tunes which is the area I am much more interested in.
Each to their own. For me a DJ plays records. Playing tracks from a laptop/using a computer is something else. I am not saying it requires less skill or anything but I just think a DJ plays records.LordBid wrote:Oh yea Wax is the only way to DJI don;t even give a fuck abotu Vynl plus I really liek the fact that everything I need is really just on my computer and a midi controller, not some expensive turntables and other bullshit so that I can seem more "legitimate" to the scene. He is deluded and misinformed at best. I bet if he recorded an hours mix of wax there would be faults throughout and fingers and thumbs all over the place.wub wrote:
Are you hating on DJs who use the same technology as you, just don't take as much time as you to learn it? Or are you saying that producers are just plain better than DJs?

so easy to get yall flustered, Sure I probably would suck ass on wax. Do I care, not really. Also I am not saying that I am great at DJing, I def suck comparitivly but I can lay out a mix. Im saying that people that make the music they play are held in much higher respect by me than the other option. and what is off about my remarks about vinyl? I think that it is true, it is expensive to spin wax and pretty much every DJ I have seen in the last year uses CDJ's or a laptop, so I think that Indeed someday there will be no such thing as vinyl on the market, at least here in the US does not seem to me to be growing.wub wrote:LordBid wrote:Oh yea Wax is the only way to DJI don;t even give a fuck abotu Vynl plus I really liek the fact that everything I need is really just on my computer and a midi controller, not some expensive turntables and other bullshit so that I can seem more "legitimate" to the scene. Can you back that up with like a legitimate source and stuff?wub wrote:LordBid wrote:

a) You're not getting me riled, I've had this discussion many times and I imagine Serox has as well.
b) If price is the main reason for not spinning vinyl, then fair play.
c) Vinyl sales in the US rose by 14% in 2010

Everywhere I play in London has no CDJs at all. I know loads of people who still buy records so its all good.LordBid wrote:
