Re: Write A Album In Febuary Who Is With Me???
I'm gonna hopefully be posting a track up every second day with the last one going up on the 28th.
Probably make mine downloadable as I doubt any will be of the quality to release. Who knows though.
EDIT: I've signed up as stealthelf by the way

Just a few days to go

I have been trying, to brush up on my craft the last few days with a few little exercises, like using just a sinewave, and trying to write a track in one hour. The new track in my sig is one of these track, made im just over a hour with, with just a piano patch in kontakt.
Anyone going to be doing the weekly challenges, might have a go if im feeling stuck, or if they sound fun.
List of the past weekly challenges; http://fawm.org/wiki/past_challenges
I don't know what to do for the next few days, might just keep writing stuff.

Yep. Gonna give it a shot. Going to try writing some short poems, record them, and chop them up (language being my first love and the thing I studied at the Univ.) . Might even try using short vocal samples as percussion? Don't know how that will work yet.

Yeah you can make percussion with vocals, just cut out the hard syllables.

Re: Write A Album In February Who Is With Me???
Huge MASSIVE ups to 3za on letting us in on this, man. I'd have had no other otherwise.
For those of you looking for inspiration I have an interesting thought for you:
I work as a digital copywriter at an ad agency, so being creative has recently become my job. In my quest to get better I started reading books about how people get ideas and find inspiration. I think the most important takeaway of what I've read, learned in school, and on the job is: look for artistic opportunities everywhere in life, and be as perceptive and open as possible.
Inspiration strikes in weird places. I got to talking to my friend at work about how I was doing this "write an album in february" thing, and we got on the topic of how placing restrictions on yourself can be an amazing source of inspiration. He suggested things like only working with audio, no midi or software instruments, or making a concept album which I know has been tossed around a lot in this thread, and imo is a good idea considering the time restraint.
So we started talking about using art that appeals to one sense, to inspire art that appeals to a different sense (such as writing a song based on a painting). So to make an (already) long story short(er), we started talking about dream-like films and childhood dreams and so it struck me that it could be really cool to make an album about/inspired by dreams. I came home tonight, pulled out my pen and paper, and before making any music I wrote out a "manifesto", if you will, about dreams: what they are, how and when they occur, what makes them memorable or forgettable, and so on. And by the time I had let all this inspiration sink in over the course of the day, I sat down and immediately knew how the whole album would be, from beginning to end, and began to crank out some good stuff.
Find a theme, something that interests you, and examine it in an abstract way and think about how that could translate musically. I'm not making a dubstep album - it will range from dark, dirty dubstep to uplifting acoustic rock - so some of you who are might not find this quite as practical, but I figured it worth sharing.
Good luck to you all and have fun. The important thing isn't that you finish 14 songs in 28 days, but rather that you gain inspiration from a restriction and make something you love. It's a great feeling of accomplishment to set a goal and achieve.

^ Nope. Finish 14 songs or you’re a failure.

Thanks for the tip. That makes much the sense, using the hard syllables. Right on. : )

Re: Write A Album In February Who Is With Me???
Finally got round to signing up. Got 4 hours in the studio at Uni next week and seeing as it's just an introduction class and I'm the only one in the class who uses a DAW everyday I reckon I can shoot on ahead and get some ideas rolling
Gonna be fun!

1 day to go!!!
This time tomorrow I will be sweating in the studio (my bedroom).
As for my plan to give up making music before this, that didn't really work. I have been spending more time working at the DAW, not less.
I had a friend how was doing multimedia at uni, and I ending up getting dragged in to her music project, some how...

I've been doing the opposite. Just been playing videogames and chilling with the misses the last few days to like...totally purify my musical shakras or [insert whatever new age bullshit you're most familiar with here].3za wrote:Just a few days to go![]()

Figure I'm gonna have no spare time for ANYTHING else once the first hits us so taking advantage of the down time :p
Re: Write A Album In February Who Is With Me???
It's a foundation technology course I have to do to get enough UCAS points so I can start Audio & Music technology in September.3za wrote:1 day to go!!!

Spent the last 3 months bored to tears with the maths and computing side (which I failed badly) so now I'm looking forward to doing something I spend every day doing and - touch wood - I can't possibly fail, haha
...But yeah, can't begin to explain how psyched I am to be able to spend a whole Friday tinkering about in Logic instead of a 3 hour lecture on Algebra
Re: Write A Album In February Who Is With Me???
Almost anything is better than a 3 hour lecture on Algebra.
For FAWM: Resting my ears; watching some a random selection of movies (last night Mega Python vs. Gatoroid featuring Debby Gibson and Tiffany, both of 80's pop vocal fame and tonight The Imaginarium of Dr. Parrasus); jotting down a few ideas I can't let get away from me; helped the GF bake bread.
