metal itself is so divided into subgenres that many metal fans can name subgenres of metal they cant stand, i could easily argue that metalheads hate metal more than people who don't listen to it because metalheads will actively hate on bands or styles they don't like (remind you of any other genres?) where as people who don't listen to metal are indifferent to the genre as a whole
for example, myself an wolf89 are both metal affectionados but i'm pretty certain that it would be very difficult for us to actually agree on bands we like
What sort of metal do you like?

the faceless, between the buried and me, despised icon, born of osiris, veil of maya, war from a harlots mouth etc...
bascially stuff that could be branded with the fringe weilding, skinny jeans wearing [insert prefix]core label, but more technical/progressive than that (not just breakdowns for the sake of breakdowns)

Country music. Just can't seem to ever be in a mood for it or very rarely.
Most hardcore metal stuff. Too loud for my ears. Not that I don't listen to stuff loud but can't seem to get into it.
Soft rock. Hit or miss with it; majority of it passes me by.
Anything that's poppy sounding (i.e Britney Spears/Lady Gaga/etc) and/or whatever mainstream deems worth selling. Very little of that I'll take of it.
Punk. Have nothing against it, just doesn't interest me.
R&B/Soul. No mood for it.
I think that pretty much covers it.

Metal (99% of what I've heard I hate, think the image plays a big part of why I hate it)
Punk
emo
donk
gabba
happy hardcore
harcore
Country
Cheesy pop
bhangra
Obviously this is all based on from what I have heard. I highly doubt anyone would be able to convince me to like any of these genres. Certain images, instruments and speed are 3 reasons why I can completely dismiss genres.

Whats the type of music that attracts geordies in ridiculous furry boots? Is that Hardcore? Or Gabba?
Always see tents of it at festivals and it's absolutely horrifying, Northerners on base jumping up and down to 'THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP'

Depends what type of metal you're after. I mean it's so broad and there's a lot of utter shite out there
