Are there any rules regarding the status of the track? Signed, unsigned, free download etc?

Piss, I edited Percept's message instead of quote:

No signed tracks. No WIPs.
Undecided about free downloads.
My thinking is these should be everyone's best foot forward, although slim, these people might want to take it further and if you've already given it out for free then chances are that's down the drain. Though I suppose if you created a track that someone was interested in then they're going to be interested in the rest of your catalogue.
I'm going to say no to free downloads currently, unless someone has a decent argument against?

Here's my argument against.
Everything on my soundcloud is available for download. This is purely because it allows as many people as possible to have the chance to listen to my music as much as they like, wherever they like. From parents to old friends to strangers. Just a lot more convenient and so on. I don't see why a free download should stop a track from being eligible, seeing as most people that will want to put their tracks to the panel will have never charged anyone for listening to their music, ever, and will likely be keen for plenty of people to hear their music. I choose to let anyone download what I might consider my best work rather than just some people i know, via a privately sent link to mediafire or something, only because I want more people to be able to stumble upon my best work, or just hear my best stuff - which is a big part of the purpose of the panel idea, surely?

Yeah im with Horus on this
I dont understand the arguement against feedback on free downloads... its up to the artist if they want to give it away free, why cant they have feedback on these tracks too?

No one said they can't have feedback on their tracks, but I don't think it would be right for this. It's the demo panel, would you send a track you have given away for free to a lable?
If you give all your music away for free, why not make a new track just for this, and give it your all.
