it's gonna start getting to that stage soon where i'm gonna bring another f**king bag to the dance with turntables in... I still very much rep vinyl and am sick of turning up to clubs to be presented with turntables that havent been serviced/seen use in ages, often with no headshell, broken pitch control or tonearm, and that's the ones that do still actually have turntables in a club...

I started off with a vestax MIDI controller, then I went to Pioneer CDJs and now I'm going to get some technics within the next few weeks. I haven't grown up with vinyl and have always brought CD's or Digital format. I just love watching people mixing solely on wax, I feel the nostalgia despite not having grown up with it. I know it's harder on myself as obviously wacking a usb is easier than shelling out large amounts on tunes but easy isn't always best and I want my mitts on wax! Anyway my point is not everyone advances with technology and there is clearly a strong group with a lot of feeling towards this situation, and it is very sad to hear someone ask associated to the vinyl/dubplate scene as Mala say this, but surely with enough heads and influence towards wax being put out; surely there's a hope vinyl sales and clubs maintenance on thier turntables will increase.

you know what boss, you need to just fuck off! first you have almost the same username as me, you post in most of the same topics I do, now I see you are in exactly the same situation as me! (RE: going from digital to vinyl, and getting 1210's in the next couple weeks haha!)

i wouldnt be surprised if your account is just my sleep-walking account... :o

I THINK ALL THE TOP DJ,S SHOULD DEMAND A SET OF DECKS IN THERE CONTRACT,NO DECKS NO PLAY.
THIS WAY VINYL STANDS A BETTER CHANCE!

This is already happening. Personally I refuse. I have no problems turning down a gig. I have had my share in the past so fuck it. But I played a gig out of town and there was a huge long table set up and every act brought their own set up. There were 6 turntables and cd decks and the lot. To be fair the show went a lot smoother since no one was swapping out serato boxes on the fly but my decks don't leave the house. If it becomes an international epidemic then I might be retired for good. I am old as shit anyway. Let the kids with their control surfaces have it. I don't care.

Most DJ's love vinyl and even more dubplates... most people are not rich.

At least DJ's with real talent can play upfront music now not just high paid DJ's or rich kids..

It's not gunna be a quick process but nouthing is simple and could go a long way to naming and shameing shoddy nights and boost DJ's confidence to pull off a mental set/night....

Its a damn shame as well...

I am a vinyl junkie, it has to be said.... I don't even buy CD's - music for general listening is on vinyl, I DJ vinyl and only play CDs of my own tunes for trying stuff out (don't really have the money to test out tunes via dubplate) or things I got that day/week when playing out .

Every venue ive been too, luckily has great decks - I think as a vinyl community we should be blessing and praising the venues what provide a great set up for vinyl DJs and name and shaming those who don't.. Not just on a Dubstep level - i'm talking a wider picture...

I know people won't turn down bookings because of a venue not catering for vinyl DJs as well as we would hope (who can afford to miss a paying gig, really?) but it'll be nice to get the heads up from the most trusted source, other DJs.

Whoever was giving out about it being the clubs' fault for not having working decks, it's not really. A venue manager isn't gonna pump €1000 into buying new Technics that are only gonna get broken by some over-enthusiastic drunken warm-up DJ. It's down to the promoters sorting it out themselves.

It kind of baffles me that a promoter who's experienced enough at running shit to book someone as big as Mala etc would let this happen...Surely they would have run nights before in the venue, and probably DJ'd themselves in the venue, so they should know what state the Technics are in.

Also, in Dublin anyway, while few DJs are pure vinyl, probably 70%+ of dubstep etc DJs use Serato, so at any gig with someone like that playing, the warm-up DJ wouldn't be able to play either if the decks are fucked. Would have assumed it'd be like that everywhere.

These promoters must be seriously shit.

Mans job is playing records. You hire man to play records, but don't provide him with the machinery to do his job.

what does this tell you?

It basically say's you have a promoter who doesn't have a clue how to put a night on and meet the demands of someone he is not only paying to do a specific job. But you've also got a promoter who is taking money off people who want to see a man do his job but are basically being ripped off due to a promoter not fulfilling his end of the contractual bargain.

fuck the vinyl verses cd debate its pointless each to their own agree to disagree. What everyone misses the point of in these arguments is, there are to many shit promoters who are making money off of artists they book to play a night then make the artists look amateur by not providing them with the tools to perform.

my 2peneth.
^^^^^^^^

To many kids with F.A experience, knowledge and clue running gigs these days, I reckon the agents need to research who they are selling the gigs to !

Yep basically promoters don't typically have experience because some where along the line most people are smart enough to get out of the business while there are plenty of sucker willing to get into it. Maybe we should take it to the next logical step and put the blame on the agents because they are the ones that are ultimately responsible for hooking it up and is supposed to be the liaison between artist and promoter. And then the artist themselves have to adapt a but if that is how you choose to make your money. If you have other sources of income you can then be pickier about the gigs you play.

No way! I was about to say I know people who have booked andy and have been told that there needs to be 3 mk5's or he wont do the gig.

On the dnb note. Was at a hardware a few months back waiting for Fierce to play. He had to play the first 20 minutes of his set using 1 deck because the other was fucked. This was in front of a full room 1. The guy was fuming as was I. Shit it makes me mad just thinking about it.
