I'll just say it now...
Please don't flame..
Anyway!
This is the "IN" music for right now...
I'll give it a year when people move on and it becomes about something else..
Everyone in my little town now go to "raves"..
I'll just say it how it is..every type of genre comes and goes!
It all depends on who stays and who will leave and follow the next trend!
From there we will see who is really in it and who isn't...
I'm done reading about this ZOmboy shit!
Good for him!
Can we please close this thread now?

I just thought of this thing that you should all do.
It's like... you make your own music, and don't worry about this silly shit.

Good for him, the history of popular anything attests to the fact that you can rip off whatever is popular and become popular yourself. Let him enjoy his 15 minutes and focus on getting yours, without sounding like datskrillcision.

Daft Punk samples a whole track, rearranges and make a popular track. That's cool, Daft Punk are awesome.
Modjo samples a whole track, rearranges and makes a popular track. Lady, hear me tonight, he doesn't care what you think.
Stardust sample a whole track, rearranges and makes a popular track. Who cares, music sounds so much better with you!
Cassius samples a whole track, rearranges and makes a popular track. Batshit response to how amazing this track is.
Fatboy Slim samples a whole track, rearranges and makes a popular track. That's cool, Fatboy Slim is dope.
Eminem samples a snippet of a track, makes a popular track. Ha, do you know who Eminem is? He can whatever he wants.
Groove Armada samples a whole track, rearranges, makes a popular track. Who gives a shit? Groove Armada are amazing.
Massive Attack samples two different tracks, rearranges, makes 2 different popular tracks. Massive Attack are too dope to care what you think.
Armin, Moby, Prodigy, Spiller, Michael Lange. All sampled entire tracks and reinvented them all.

Zomboy samples a bassline, rearranges, makes a popular track. Everyone goes batshit crazy.

If sampling is so prominent and accepted in House, Techno, Hip Hop, and Trance, when will it be accepted in Dubstep? I personally don't sample basslines, but I do sample single drum hits, and vocals from movies and video games, and old Disco hits and stabs (these are impossible to replicate without authentic synthesizers. Fight me). Sampling basslines is immoral and cheating, sure, but how does that effect you in anyway shape or form? Because he's super popular and getting attention he doesn't deserve? Haha, fucking grow up. This is the music business, not preschool.

Shiiiiiiiiiiit.

that zomboy didn't sound anything like the brilliant sampling in the examples above. seems a bit apples-to-oranges to me.
Has it been alleged that he's sampled his synth basslines? Cuz that's just wack, it isn't sampling in the respectable sense.

No, quality doesn't change anything. The principal is the same because quality is subjective, Zomboy does have a respectable fanbase, and a majority probably wouldn't know half of the people I listed, and would protest that Zomboy's tracks are as great. What do you mean by brilliant sampling anyway? I have a few ideas in mind, but if you mean that it was well conceived, built up on and evolved, then I think Zomboy is a decent sampler.

Are his tracks actually resampled? I can't make it through any of them, I tried Pirate Hooker and it was so messy, couldn't stand it. But he hasn't admitted it, so I assume we're still in the speculation phase. I reckon if he pitched down the entire bassline by one or two octaves, it wouldn't sound as identical.

Sorry if this is a silly bump, but i just saw this guys track on the most viewed videos on Youtube - i had seen this guy and his spectacularly unoriginal ways but didn't think he would get too much attention due to the stupid amounts of similarities to Skrillex's music. Now hes been on UKF i guess he is a "legit" brostepper now.

Anyway, on the subject of the sampling - i personally think that sampling any synthetic dance sound, especially something so recent (forget about popular) is just lame. Like somebody said earlier, he took the sound and used it in the same context - it just shows he wanted to use "raowr" synths so he took the easy route. This is fucking lame, i think that sampling can be effective so when, for example, Massive Attack use a string sample or a snippet of vocals (believe it or not, a lot of their strings are synthesised anyway) and layer it over their own original music and in a different context then yeah, i dont see a problem with that artistically. Organic sounds in electronic tracks is something i like hearing.

But when somebody says "i want to make a Skrillex track so i will sample Skrillex" then it is lame as hell. I mean, have an original idea as an artist for god's sake.

I frequent IDMF and there was a producer on that who would make the worst brostep tunes and one day some people were like "this sounds familiar", and the guy denied he sampled other wobbles. Then somebody nonchalantly pointed to a moment in his track and went "Ajapai - Incoming" and the similarities were so undeniable the guy just straight up admitted it but tried to defend it by saying he "just sampled what they sampled". This sort of ethic is what kills electronic music.

Even if he didn't actually sample Skrillex he clearly, clearly ripped the fuck out his style (i in no way enjoy Skrillex's music btw) and for that Zomboy, you fucking suck.

On the plus side, people might accidentally click on a Zomby track and like it.

+1

listen to this shit, he either succeddfully recreated a skrillex patch EXACTLY and used it (doubt it though its way too similiar). or he sampled him. THEY ARE THE SAME EXACT SOUNDS. anyone who listens to skrillex, listen for the elephant sounding thing that he used in cinema in this song, also listen to his signature hhnnngg noise. like the one in still gettin it.

Seriously,

All the tracks sound the fucking same too. Move over Funtcase, Zomboy is officially the worst fucking thing ever.

I mean, 00:28... i dont know which Skrillex track im talking about, but that sequence is so shamelessly ripped off one of his. And no, he probably didn't sample it but come on dude... just come on... how do you sleep at night?

i didn't mean sound quality at all. I meant the fatboy slim, hip hop, daft punk etc. were sampling outside of their genre, based on an idea that they had, or that struck them when they heard the sample source material. It's ≠about having an IDEA and making it happen.
Zomboy made a brostep smasher out of another brostep smasher synth shriek. whether sampled or just copied in sound design, thats fucking stupid, end of.

I don't see what all the hubub is about.

It's easy to do what he did.

You know what he did? He spent time and put effort into a track. More time than most people would think. going through each part over and over untill it sounded awesome.

Then I can almost bet you he sent it off to get mastered, and maybe mixed again before that.

Point being, spend time with your creations. Mix them, mix them again, make more than one mix and then go through and find the one that's best (save new mixes by saving a separate project file for each new mix). EQ things, mess with dynamics.

Or you can just keep posting on DSF about how some new artist sucks...

Both of them will get you to where you need to go. :P
