like anything else I think there are levels of prostitution that are acceptable and unacceptable. Its up to the individual to decide which level they're enagaing in.
I was in Cambodia recently with my wife who is Australian but of Cambodian descent, and the sex tourism there (and also from what I've seen in Thailand and Laos) disgusts me and saddens me. Its a real problem and incidences of HIV and underage girls being sold into prositution are high.
If prostitution was legal and regulated properly, like drugs, it wouldn't be such an issue IMO.

I wonder, really, whether the majority really are in the former category. This book has quite a lot to say about the whole thing, although it draws largely on anecdotal evidence and is a bit emotive about it. Was in Amsterdam recently and we wandered through the red light district, I found it surreal, disheartening and quite frankly horrible, the entire thing - but at the same time you have to recognise the obvious benefits of legalising and controlling it, in terms of women's safety and so on, although I wonder whether it might legitimise pimps or something, never really seen any sciency literature about the effect of it. A lot of people defend prostitution by saying that it's about the woman's choice and so on, and to a certain extent I agree, I suppose, but I can still dislike it; I wouldn't really go and yell at a prostitute for being a prostitute, but I think I would think less of any bloke who paid for it.
Also, allow people saying "oh we all pay for it in one way or another" because it's bullshit. Am I also "paying" for companionship/friendship if I buy my mate a pint? When I got together with my partner it was because we were attracted to each other and because we enjoyed each others company, not because I bought her a meal.
