the funny thing is, the foxconn factory (which is actually a whole city) has such a high population, that even with the 16 suicides (and 12 deaths), it's still well below the country's average suicide rate.

No time for Jobs at all, only thing I can possibly respect him for is his business skills, selling hardware worth £10 for £100. Fucking smart.

wub you're making my day
also a big fuckoff to people giving that man credit he doesn't deserve. he changed the world? oh please... i don't get how.
and don't tell me none of that "making computers design objects" bullshit, a computer is supposed to work go buy a painting if you want to waste money on something just because it looks good.
it's the same bullshit as people buying pc games that suck from a gaming perspective, to the point where they're less fun than other/older just because the graphics are so good. and yes i know that's something mostly pc users do but i don't mean this in a pc vs mac sense, i think both demographics are full of retards.
so if that's what this man brought us, design over functionality, then sorry but fuck him.
besides everything i have against that man, why would i mourn his death? i don't know him. i can't say i'm glad he died but it's no different to the people at foxconn for example in my perspective. i didn't know them either, i can say it sucks they died and i certainly am not happy that steve jobs died but that doesnt mean i have to make a fuss about it.
bottom line: i'm sorry for his friends and family but no more than i am sorry for the friends and family of everyone who dies every day.
ps: i used to own a mac myself and i can't say i didn't love it. doesn't mean i would buy one again tho.

He was also the first man to sell a home computer with a GUI and the first person to bring the mouse into the home/office, if that wasn't world changing, I don't know what was. I give him props for his business acumen in the 90s and 00s, but in the early 80s he was a genuinely visionary nerd.

!. Famous person dies.
2. Dig up some dirt on them.
3. Post on internet.
4. Take moral highground.
5. Accuse world of not caring.
Wow. Don't think anyones ever done that before well done.
Edit: Also I'm pretty sure foxconn have alot more clients than just Apple.
just a few...

it's luxury....

all i'm saying is: we use computers to work, to watch stuff, to talk to people, to play games, to make music or images or write books or whatever. what matters is what's on the screen and coming out of the speakers, why the hell would i care what the thing looks like? as long as it's fast, robust, ergonomic and preferrably lightweight i don't give a fuck how my laptop looks.
and desktop computers, well... people aren't even going to see them in trains or cafés so there's no way to show off with them (which no doubt is what MANY people do with apple producs, i certainly did back when, even if i wasnt aware of it), again who cares what they look like?
on the screen is where the magic happens. oh wait i get it, the people at starbucks aren't gonna see whats on the screen eh?

okay point taken. but things change, and the last 5-10 years that change did certainly not go in the right direction.
that man might have had a vision and maybe what he envisioned was really great and cool and the future(tm) but the results (no doubt perverted by money-hungry investors and market analysts and whatnot) look like the brave new world of computing to me.

Yeah, I tend to agree about a lot of Apple's post iMac offerings... the only piece of Apple kit I've ever owned are iPhones, tbh... that seemed to manage style *and* function, but I'll probably still wind up getting an Android next due to the pricing and App Store restrictions.
But yeah, the iPod wasn't his finest hour by a long chalk... just perhaps his most famous hour.

whats wrong with buying something because you like how it looks? by your rationale we should only where trainers that facilitate our running or playing sports and clothes that cover us up and keep us warm, style shouldnt come in to it?! i think your view is very close minded...
anyway, RIP steve jobs. cheers for providing all my computers for my whole life!

Shamelessly pasted from another forum:
"When I heard on the news this morning that the man who was partly responsible for creating Apple had died, I was kinda hoping they were talking about that dreary, bed-wetting, nob-headed ponce, Chris Martin."

Arguing over whether anyone should pay their respects to someone who's just died - Priceless. Might as well go do the same to the random people who pay their respects to dead people (e.g. musicians, toddlers, princesses, teenagers, mothers, 9/11 victims) they never knew personally.
Anyway.
I can't say his death touched me on a personal level but it was a bit of a shock to hear he was dead. I hadn't even known he was suffering from cancer because, frankly, I didn't care enough to follow his life. I think he's done and achieved quite a lot, and it's a bit sad that he's died at a fairly young age (for a well-priviledged Westerner, before the angry mob demanding justice and remorse for the thousands of underpriviledged who die daily appears). He took Apple from a basement thing to one of the biggest companies in the world. He also managed to turn himself into a recognisable figure, not some random lurker corporate CEO that no one's ever heard of. It takes quite a lot to do all that, especially for a nerd.

well when i'm playing sports i would wear shoes and trainers that facilitate running/playing sports, yes. even if they look silly because idgaf, i'm doing sports, thats what counts.
a construction worker doesn't care how silly his helmet might look as long as it keeps his head safe. he doesn't care what his power drill looks like as long as it does the job.
computers and smartphones are tools for communication, creation and information. they should be functional first and foremost.
but thanks to stevie they've become some sort of lifestyle/design/status object, now buying a phone is like buying clothes you wear in your free time? wut? it's like cars, really. i want a car to be efficient, functional. fuck what it looks like, why would anyone care? if i wanna enjoy something beautiful i'll enjoy some form of art or go for a walk in the forest or spend time with my girlfriend.
nowadays everything has to be a fucking design object. everyone's a fucking designer, every designer is a fucking artist ergo everything is art now. 10 years ago you'd have laughed at people buying a designer spoon and bowl for his cereal, nowadays most people will probably ask him where they can buy that shit
man i dont see this discussion going anywhere, i'm hungover and when my head hurts i am an asshole. also i can't do anything besides lying in bed all day so i tend to write way too much text.
waking up feeling like a steamroller tried to mate with you and seeing people post iPhone 4S = iPhone for Steve - R.I.P. on facebook and other people commenting how theyre totally gonna buy it because poor stevie died... well let's say i quite literally had to throw up after reading that.

I think we can all be on your side on that one. Take some Nurofen and the day off from social media... I've already had to ignore a mate's girlfriend because she spent the entire morning posting videos of the iPhone 4S with captions such as "MIND.... BLOWN" and "SO SAD STEVE WON'T SEE EVERYONE LOVE IT"... she seems to have used up the Western Hemisphere's ration of heart symbols too, the tnuc.
