Re: a real feminist moment..
I didn't make this thread for permission or to spur action...
I just wanted to tell a real honest female experience..
that illustrates the point that was hot topic of the week...
sexism and b-culture is at an all time high...
I lived the 70's the 80's the 90's and the 2000's so I can say.
You know - the 70's and 80's were sexy also...but people didn't use it like they do today...
Like a weapon or a qualification...
I don't think you could be a television anchor woman these days...
without being signifigantly above average in the looks department
at least not here in America...

Re: a real feminist moment..
The conversation in the "Do you think women are equal" thread and the other recent one covered that much more sensibly. The main problem with this thread is the OP... there's really nothing "hypersexualised" about that CD cover. You could pick a million that ARE hypersexualised, but you didn't... you chose a talented women making honest money from her art, who happens to also be pretty, as your target... I would've had much less of a problem if you'd gone off on someone like Lisa Lashes... but picking the target you did says a lot more about you than her.
Oversexualisation is an issue as the other threads covered perfectly well, but that's not to say that the human race should be totally asexualised. Like every other species of animal on the planet, sex is an extremely fundamental part of our existence and physical attraction is a huge part of it - those blessed with good looks are as welcome to make the most of them as those blessed with musical talent or high IQ... she appears to have been born with talent AND looks... lucky girl! I don't see the cover you posted as any different to what most men do on their covers or even their ID photos... you make the most of what you have. If that picture makes you think of rape, then you need your head looking at.
Of course people on Telly should be above average in the looks department. It's the fucking television. If you're not there for your qualifications as a journalist/writer/expert (which most presenters aren't) then you're there to make the show look good... that goes for men and women. I'm sure it's worse for women, but to say that TV presenters, models or actors don't need to be good looking is a little bit naive... they kind of do...

Re: a real feminist moment..
I didn't pick anything you dick....
I'm telling you my honest reaction to that cd when I received it.
I was really surprized myself...
I was surprized that she did that.
I was really surprized at my reaction to something as "insignifigant" as a cd cover...
I am not a stupid person that sits around worrying about how people look...
but openning that box and seeing that cover disturbed me to the core...
...the core of what I understood women to be doing with music.
I should say...women in "my favorite" scene to be doing...

You thought they were hiding behind twee cartoons instead of proudly showing their faces alongside their art like men do? It's hardly a Lil Kim cover...bright maroon wrote:the core of what I understood women to be doing with music.

I've just taken another look to make sure I hadn't missed the shot of her showing inappropriate skin... she's made a record of club music, she looks dressed for a club. It's entirely appropriate.

show me the stats. from as much news as i've watched, its about 50/50. the only time you get a break is when you're old, and that goes for both sexes.
Re: a real feminist moment..
I agree with this, but its not relevant to why you're hating on a woman dressed in evening wear.bright maroon wrote:kidshuffle wrote:breaking news: its the same for men

Re: a real feminist moment..
There are many types of club that play Drum and Bass these days... but I know plenty of guys and girls that dress up well to even the dirtiest raves, some people like making the effort, some don't see the point. The point of the rave it doesn't matter which kind you are... if you love the music and are at peace with the people around you, you're fucking beautiful.
She's fucking beautiful.
She's fucking beautiful.

Re: a real feminist moment..
One of the most beautiful and simultaneously fucked up sights ever...
..was driving into the industrial complex where the Capital Ballroom in DC was located...
The ground was...and I'm not exaggerating - completely covered with broken glass
the entire road and sidewalks - glittering like a pave setting...
100% glittering with broken glass...
my point...don't fall off your heels with exposed arms and shoulders...

There are a lot of people in this world who are super wealthy
not because they are talented or respectfully ethical...
They are selfishly aggressive and unscrupulous...
Not to blanket everyone - but just saying...don't be a fool.
