No offence mate but I don't like to have people I've never met in real life on Facebook.
I used to then I got to something like 900 friends which was stupid so now I try to keep it friends/acquaintances only, bar producers and those who own big youtube channels for promotion. ;)

download the vec2 or vec 3 pack. I personally use a snare which is quite short then boost the low frequencies slightly and cut the high frequencies, the high end of the snare should be created with claps which i cut the mid range out so that i can still hear the main snare sample. Finally i add white noise or a sound effect like a glass breaking or something and just take the levels down slightly so that its barely audible but adds thickness.

To get the punch i guess you could export the three samples playing at the same time then eq acordingly? alot of the vec samples are punchy anyway so its not crucial to be honest.. hope this helped slightly.

I always appreciate someone taking the time to do a tutorial. However, the only thing that sounds like the koan sound snare is the over boosted 200 hz. Also, the introduction of the last snare definitly caused some phasing. That being said, I'll be the first to admit that I can't get any closer.

That tut definetely started out nice, but KOAN Sound doesnt use so much white noise in their snares.. Some better samples would do. ;)

get your EQ right, give a nice solid boost at 200hz. Instant punch. Like, shoryuken stylez.

dont know if it was in this thread or not, but take a 808 like kick drum and pitch it up like 2 octaves, eq it to 200 hz, and layer that on your snare, nice sold round punch

good stuff for doing the video

I think if you made a few narrow EQ boost/cuts around the 200 region you wouldnt need to compress it at much to bring out the punch.

yeah i'd agree with that. i dont see the point in super compressing a sound 1600 times.

will it be loud? possibly yes but so what, flat? also yes..

actually in one of my latest tunes i didn't use any compression directly on the drums but only a bit of parallel compression to add some grit.

The way I make it is to layer up samples. Get a nice beefy one, a sample of a rimshot (or something similar, make it sound a lot harder), a clap and a white noise sample.
If you listen to Zomboys remix of Hot Right Now, you'll notice the white noise sample he has on his snare. That makes it sound like it's got reverb on but still keeps the punch.

As for EQ'ing, boost the crap out of 200hz, duck out at 100hz (where the kick will hit, 4 to the floor beats sound awesome when you do this, each drum has more clarity and cuts through the mix). If it's sounding a bit weak, make the 200hz boost's q a little wider. Take a bit off the middle around 300-700hz, then boost the high end ever so slightly to give it some clarity.

Making a Snare is like a Recipe. You add an ingredient, taste, look for what it's missing and add another ingredient. Well you can take out, which you can't do while cooking but I think it was a good analogy so stfu! ;)

So if you want your snares more punchy, get a punchy snare and layer it on top of your other snares. As a tip, choose a snare with a strong attack but a SHORT one. The recipe here is too use short punchy snares mixed with longer higher frequency snares. And layer a Hat or a Ride if you haven't already ;)

For processing, I just play a bit with env and note length and boost arround 200hz with EQ. I don't like compressing drums but that's just me.
I also recommend Vengence samples.

What's so appealing about these snares?
