LOL @ the idea that front-page real estate is actually a hot button issue for users right now
Fixed it just for ya,

But seriously, it is. How many decent posts get over looked because they get pushed behind others. How many people start to search the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th page? I figure, why bother i was on just last night, but i am sure a couple posts get pushed behind.

I know you can bump but still. If your trying to get feed back front page is the best place for it.

"(questions that couldnt be answered by a google search)" and how exactly would you achieve this? Haha.

Seriously, though. Why are you so incredibly butthurt? Get the fuck over it... Your life isn't based around this forum, and the forum isn't as fucked up as you might think it is.

Main point of this forum is to keep it active and for people to learn from it, gain information, noobs need a place to learn from "seniors" and so on, seniors are the people they are today because they learned as a noob and gained experience and knowledge. this forum is based of a hosting server that needs to be paid , money comes from the top of this page, if we cut off users the money will go down. Memory on the forum , reffering to users and post will be limited and eventually this forum will die. I estimate we have a coupple of thousand users use this forum daily or maybe even more, being a noob is a big part of knowing and understanding certain things and it is what makes this forum so popular, so many fields to start off at. Correct me if im wrong :D

there is being a noob to a field, and there is being a noob to forum netiquette
we have things like the stickies for a reason and people put a lot of their free time into compiling that info
when someone just registers, doesn't read the stickies, faq, rules and just hits new topic it's detrimental to the board as a whole and those who genuinely want to learn and check to see if their questions have been covered first

If you mean 'moderate', then yes I am the only active one on the Production board. Though I've been off since a week last Monday and there doesn't seem to be have much of a change in terms of volume etc.
outdropt wrote:I think the, how to make this sound threads should be grouped if possible, They all take up a lot of room on the front page IMO
They were, once upon a time. However, seeing as half the questions/new threads in here are sound design, clumping & lumping all of them would create a mega thread that would mean questions getting lost under the deluge.

This, basically.

We can answer questions all we like, but there is no teaching new users to use the Search function prior to posting.

there is but it would require changing phpbb to make it so new users can't start new topics for a set period of time, they can post just not new topics
loads of boards have that feature (helps curb spam as well)

I'd prefer a GearSlutz style setup where similar threads are listed prior to posting.

That would help, It seemed like the past few days there have been a noticeable number of posts from users 25 post and below.

Coincidentally being mostly about..... how to make this sound, and which gear should i get.

Edit: Not saying I am far from 25 but...

Can't judge someone based on post count. I''ve seen some people post genius threads as their opening gambit, and there are some folk with thousands of posts who still chat utter breeze.

Agreed, its the most accurate way to judge unfortunately. Unless you had a questionnaire =P, but as stated... Not everyone comes here for the production forum..

Hemingway had six novels published during his lifetime, Salinger had four, Danielle Steel has close to 100. Does that mean that Ernest & JD combined aren't worth one tenth of her output?

Of coarse not, but its the best distinction we have. That, sig tunes, and if you follow what topics someone posts.

Why don't you just get over it? What does it REALLY matter that once in a while there is a, what you so nicely call it, retarded question. I personally couldn't care less about beginners asking these, as you again would call them, retarded questions. In fact, I'd much rather help them out or simply just shut my mouth if I were to stumple across something that I find "retarded".

If it is such a pain for you to eye these questions, why don't you just look away? I simply do not understand the meaning of this thread.

too many invaluable posts brimming with dubstep secrets are getting pushed back a page or two by the influx of "help me with this synth patch" and "getting a punchy kick" threads

Something really must be done.

If only there were a stickied post that had some sort of knowledge base for folks who really want to obtain informative reading about exactly what they're working on, rather than simply participate in an ever-moving discussion forum with new and old active users
