Ong Bak must have the highest running time to elbows in the head ratio in film history.

and that stuff about it all being 'real' 'no special fx' seems completely ridiculous after watching it
I would like to know where this information about it all being real came from as I have never heard this before now.
I guess the chamber with the hanging sacks for banging your head looks real enough..
And they're definitely walking up that thing with water in their buckets..
Banging the gong scene might be real too..
And in the balancing on the barrel/crossing the trench scene, I can't see any wires..
Completely ridiculous don't neccessarily mean untrue, I've heard some mad stories that are defo true..
Please whoever knows about the factual basis of this story -
Let us all know!!!!!

I don't mean the actors were shaolin masters, I meant that everything in the movie was entirely possible for a real person to do. There was nothing supernatural there. Check out some documentaries about Shaolin and you'll see what I mean.

for sure, the shaolin monks are fucking crazy... i wish i caught them when they performed live in sydney... smashing metal bars on their foreheads and all types of shit that just shouldn't happen without dying or at least being hospitalised

mmm i think there was some wire-fu on 36 chambers, but anyway is an amazing movie, and usually in all H-K productions the main actors performs all the stunts... so whatever that's real!
long live to the shaolin style! hehehehe
anyone liked Crouching tiger, hidden dragon? i'm still waiting to see jet li's hero and house of the fliying daggers... the nouveau martial-arts films hehe
jet li is also a badman!

True dat..
Jet-Li is a BADMAN, defo
Incredible technique with the staff / twin staffs
I too liked C.T,H.D.
Hero is great too in my opinion. Didn't like flying daggers much though.
Iron Monkey ( nouveau remake ) is good too, I personally think, though not as good as the original Kung flick of the same title ( another classic )
Some classy wire-work in that one. ( the remake )
Curse of the golden flower is a visual feast as well, not much kung in that one though!!!!
Zhang Yimou is a great cinematographer in my opinion,
If you don't mind a bit of sentimentality ( I don't )

One of the most enduring myths about HK movies...definate green alligator there.

Talking of Jet Li, I saw a great headline the other day on the BBC News tracker:
"Jet Li Attacks Chinese Censors"
Unfortunately it was an attack of the spinning sidekick variety.

I agree, in lot of samurai flicks are very drama/sentimentality charged.
i think Zatoichi 2 is a very good example

not losing respect, just losing interest on the movies, same occurs to jackie chan flicks he is doing rush hour three!!!!
hollywood destroy movies.
i think jackie chan must retire* and produce movies with samo hung in HK old-style. Maybe just imagine Jonnhie To's action scenes meets jackie chan's stunts, it would be mindblowing!!!!
*if he continues doing rush hours... and that kind of stuff.

Agreed.
Leg specialist / upper body specialist e.t.c.
Think J.C. does a lot of his own though.
And silver fox. (rip)
And the some of the Yuen brothers.

Everyone need a bit of cash though right?
JET-LI will always be a badman in my mind, regardless of what he does now.
Once upon a time in China I/II/III will always be amongst my favourites.

The jury is out on this one...
I like it myself, a masterpiece of skillfull editing / dubbing
unbelievably well done in places, but...
It is a rehash/mix-up of Lone wolf and cub 1+2
(sword of vengeance/babycart at the river styx)
And in so doing they completely change the story.
If you've seen this and not the originals, I'd recommend it ( and vice-versa) The originals are a lot deeper stories, and as usual the (U.S.) edit version is slightly dumbed down for "entertainment" audiences.
At least they used the original footage rather than make some duff remake like they usually do. The bastards.

Takashi Miike has a new movie coming out called Sukiyaki Western Django HP. As you might imagine it's a Japanese western. Should be going to see it in a week or so. Official site if anyone's interested:
