It's a fact that movement increases uptake of knowledge and makes your brain work better, so, kick away the chair, turn off the screen and turn it up and dance about the studio. You'll soon know if it grooves or not. I often work standing up, I design my studios for that and it helps. Also, ignore the computer, use other things for noises, use your hands for something other than mouse manipulation. Guitar pedals and such are the balls.

no doubt. i find myself walking about alot. walk out of the room/studio completely to see how it sounds behind walls etc. it doesnt help with the actual sound it's self but you just know when somethings sounding right.

laying down on the floor also.

If you're running out of ideas for your tunes, try alternating the days you make youre tunes.

example:

Monday: Track A

Tuesday: Track B

Wendsday: Track A

Thursday: Track B

Friday: smoke & drink

Saturday: hangover

Sunday: Track A

i tried to do this before but in the end you finish with two tracks that look much the same  but it's a good think to try if you haven't got any ideas!

- When mixing down, try playing back in reverse. You'll listen less to the tune as a whole, and more to the elements of it.

random glitchy drums plugins... can i make them constant?

ok, so ive been playing with a couple of plugins that fuck around with slowing down/speeding up/just basically glitching out drums, and they soun pretty wicked, but i have a question...

every time i play the track, the drums are different, with different effects in different places each time...

is there any way i can like, freeze the effects so they are the same every time i play through the track?

cheers!

F|uck around with the automation more as thats whats causing it to act differently each time. Or what you could do loop the drum loop for bout 32 and bounce it and you will have different automations

er... letting us know what youre using would help, but generally you could probably just resample the sounds you want.

use sliced beats and write the glitch edits yourself. much more control and more flexibility.

As they all say you could bounce down the glitch as audio, then re-import and save the bits you like, where you like and ditch the rest. But there is also a great freeware glitch plug(vst) called dblue glitch v 1 3 which is fully programmable, though I recommend doing the former anyway to save the old cpu when you got 'em glitchin' how you want 'em.

This.

Another vote for dblue glitch from me, definitely one of the better free plugins I've found.

I know when you use dBlue Glitch it starts out all random but you can input which kind of effect (ie slow down, speed up, stutter etc) happens on whatever beat.

For me - drums are the most important element in my tracks

i personally do every single drum bar myself

the most ill do is copy + paste

otherwise if u listen 2 my beats carefully ull hear how many subtle changes there are in the drums

i might add some light panning or flanger 2 give more movement tho

LiveCut's parameter's are Algorithmic, and therefore not totally controllable, you can automate the rate and intensity of those parametre's but they are quite unmeasurable....if using it in logic the best way to get glithy repetitive rhythms is by using the logics bounce facility to capture a bar of livecut's output and simply listen back to see if you like it...then repeat until you get something you like, it's the nature of livecut, it wasn't really designed for what you're asking (having read the PHD papers on it like the saddo that i am) you're not going to be able to use it to sequence glitch for a whole song. unless you like randomization.
