I don't think giant squid are that "impressive". They're huge compared to most squids, but most of their size comes from their tentacles. I'd be scared shitless of them in open water, but with barely any of their size coming from their body, they're not even as big as huge fresh water fish (sturgeons, catfish..)

The largest, the collosal squid, is about as big as an average adult whale shark and that's INCLUDING tentacles. Only one third of its total length is body. A large dolphin species will have a larger body than that :0
