So i listened to that vivek rinse mix with all the innovation.
The first hour was dub reggae, followed by spacey halfstep at 140. Ill agree the tunes are mega sick that but its been done. Taking on a more techno, dubby sound again but yeah.

excluding Logos maybe

To me it's not so much the elements used that is where the innovation lies but more a case of
how they are used, some of the tunes played sounded like nothing I've heard before even though they were using some familiar sounds and themes
For example there was a new LAS bit called Malfunction that was way out there, not heard anything like that before

Pretty much this, different tempo =/= innovation

Totally agreed. Some really nice stuff in that mix. Good to hear producers coming with a sound thats their own not a regurgitation. I've said it before, but the niteshade inc releases seem massively overlooked in these parts.

I just find a lot of the 130 has already been done at 140 or that certain elements have been taken from grime/dubstep but because they're being used at 130 now everyone's going on like it's some revolution.
a lot of it to me just sounds like dark grime being played too slow, I like a lot if don't get me wrong but I don't think it's as fresh sounding as everyone says

^ yep jim tellum
don't get me wrong. I really rate these guys and own every plate in gareth's list and whatnot, but I don't see them being the messianic salvation that liberates our ears from the stale bland shit dubstep apparently has become. imho it's just a reinterpretation of grime and dubstep with a bit of hardcore thrown in the mix. again, Logos being the exception.
maybe it's because I'm from europe and thus never really lived the whole pirate radio experience asf. but then again, don't tell me some 11y old bloke sat on his bed at 10pm listening to some pirate stations waiting to press "record" on his tape deck. I was vibing to my mum's Queen and Pink Floyd and Third World records when I was 11, and most other blokes were on a Britney hype or whatever else was posh at that time.

And by that token you could say that early dubstep was just bassy garage.

People saying 130 is just grime slowed down are clueless
A lot of the best 130 shit is barely grime at all

Kind of hard to innovative when there's so many artists out there and so many tunes..something will sound similar since there IS criteria to have a good tune as well. We will see what 2014 holds. Easier said than done.

I didn't say all the 130 stuff is just slowed down grime but a lot of it sounds like that to me, I just think that if those tunes were at 140 rather than 130 people wouldn't be going so wild for it

And I'm not even saying it's bad, I just don't see it as being any more innovative than a lot of what I'm hearing coming out at 140 at the moment
and yeah logos is decent
