Unfortunately, some companies take trademarks very seriously. Coven (Now Koven.) had legal action taken on him by a old 70's satanic metal band that was not too pleased with Koven using the same title. Unfortunately, he lost his facebook page with 20k+ fans and now is slowly rebuilding under Koven. So yeah, stay away from anything that shares the same name, even if it's not even related to music. I've made the mistake myself. Didn't realize the name "Makro" was a supermarket based in the UK and in other countries. Might have to rename myself before I put out my EP.Green Giant wrote:bumping an old thread with a question, is it legally sketchy to use a brand name as your artist name? I really dig the name Green Giant (my last name's Levert, which translates to "The green", and I'm tall as fuck, hence Green Giant, plus it sounds kinda cool IMO). BUT.. if I ever end up making any money out of music I don't wanna get sued by those canned veggies guys. But I've heard other artists with brand names too like DJ Special K, so I wasn't sure if it's doable.
thanks

That could be because like you said, its related to music tho. I think cookie monsta seems to be doing ok, maybe a shit example lol but there are others doing ok. Shame to hear that about Koven tho I didn't know about that.
What's good Makro? Bummer if you guys change your name. I really like Makro.ephyks wrote:Unfortunately, some companies take trademarks very seriously.
