Tip for creating effects buses in Reaper 3.15.

With the addition of multiple track routing in Reaper 3.5, setting up effects buses has now been made quicker and easier.

How its done:

1> Create a track to use as your effects bus.

2> Select all the tracks you'd like to send to the effects bus. (Hold down Ctrl and click on each track to select it, or, select the top track, hold down Shift and select the bottom track... All tracks in between the two will be selected...)

3> finally, hold down Shift & drag the I/O icon from any selected track to anywhere on the channel being used as the effects bus. This routes all the selected tracks to the single track being used as the effects bus.

Happy routing! :)

Reaper 3.5? Latest version I have is 3.15, do you know something we don't

I haven't used this technique, but I guess it leaves send to parent/master enabled?

Can you import "groove templates" and how do you get some swing quantisation in the midi piano roll...?

Yes, I mean 3.15... (fixed original post...

The technique also leaves the parent/master enabled. For the sake of speed, you could assign 'SWS: Toggle master/parent send on selected tracks' to a keyboard shortcut, menu or toolbar. This would enable you to switch on or off the master/parent send for any selected tracks at the click of a button, without having to go into the I/O window of each track individually... :)

In the midi editor, press 'Q' to bring up the quantise tool and 'H' for the humanise tool. They both allow for swing and 'strength of applied swing' to be set.

Sadly, I don't think Reaper features groove templates yet. It seems to be an elevated feature request, which means it should be implemented sooner rather than later! :)

Also check out the following thread ---> http://www.dogsonacid.com/showthread.ph ... genumber=1 The second page in particular has some interesting insights on timestretching, slicing and using grooves in Reaper.

Just out of interest, who here has the SWS extensions installed?

Check this thread ---> http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=48020

Basically, allow the user to get groove info from any selection of sequencer items and apply them to any other collection of sequencer items :)

You could load a drum loop, use the 'Dynamic Split' tool to get your groove and then use this ReaScript to apply the groove to other midi or audio items.

Edit:

And check out this one for multi-out VSTi & Kontakt templates ---> http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=7841

sound for all the top tips futures. I got reaper when i got my new pc a few weeks back, and im so glad to be out of cubase! REaper is more intuitive, boasts a quicker workflow, and i love the fact that a channel can do anything and everything! Everything works exactly how i think it should in my head!

I just got a quick question about using albino as an insert, can it be used with any audio, as i have a sample on the track, there are no effects at all in the chain except albino. I have set it to z_init preset, got audio in first osc, but when i fiddle with the filter it doesn't affect the sound in any way. Any ideas why its not working?

I'm guessing it has something to do with Albino needing to recieve a midi note to trigger the filter ADSR?

Do Albino's other on-board effects process the sound in any way?

nah it seems to be doing absolutely nothing, i have tried the midi note thing, but that didnt seem to work either, should the midi note triger be underneath your sample, or will i have to use albino as a send effect on a seperate channel?

Okay, I downloaded the demo of Albino 3 to see if I could suss why you can't hear any changes to the sound.

When used as an insert effect, that is, after another synth directly on the same FX list, it doesn't route the sound 100%. (Actually it does, but the original audio is still present 'dry' underneath. Sadly, I'm unsure how to turn down the dry signal so you're only left with the wet signal...)

Using two channels however, we can route the audio 100% wet through Albino for proper processing! :)

------------------------------------------------------------------

Set up two channels, the first with your source sound you wish to process with Albino, the second with Albino itself.

Initialise Albino with the 'zz_ini't patch found in the 'Diverse Sounds' patch bank.

Select 'Audio Input' on Oscillator 1.

On the channel with Albino, click the 'I/O' button.

Add a new recieve from which ever track you have your source material.

Once the new recieve has been created, you should see something saying 'Audio:1/2 v => 1/2 v'

Click the second '1/2' and select 'New channels on recieving tracks: 3/4'

Open the Albino FX window and in the top right corner, click on '2 In 2 Out'.

You will see the routing grid. click on the + button to add more ins and outs from Albino.

Click on the grid for inputs 3/4 so it looks like the grid for in/outs 1/2.

Uncheck the boxes for the inputs on the 1/2 grid.

Finally, you should eb able to test your signal is passing 100% wet through Albino by using the LP or HP filter and turning the filter cutoff to the extremes.

-------------------------------------------------------

You should now be able to set up routing inside Albino as you would normally, i.e, for the FX section.

If you want to use the ADSR envelopes, you'll need to trigger them using midi. By default, Reaper should have routed the midi from the source channel to the Albino channel. If not, just draw in midi directly onto the Albino channel in the usual way.

You may wish to drag the Albino channel above the source channel and make it into a folder track. If you set the source channel as the last track in the folder, you can then collapse the track so it is out of view.

ah nice one for the help man, ill test it out tomorrrow. I was hoping to be able to do it as an insert but i guess it doesnt really matter when you can have as many channels as you want! yes the reaper.

The rex chopper is amazing as well, just tap tab and then s to split breaks in asimilar manner to recycle. Banging. Props to the creators of reaper it just keeps gettin better, theyre some dedicated lovers of the right to make music for cheap!! Cant believe other daws will set you back 400 quid when reaper does the job better than many!

Cheers again futures, but...

I might be being completely stupid here, but by using this routing option i can get sound running through albino which is great because all i want to do is use the saturation in its filters and modulation for an audio clip i have. However, it is not possible to get rid of the dry signal which is not passing through albino. If you mute that then it obviously does not run through albino! Argh, all im after is a 100% wet signal out the other end of albino and 0% dry signal from the orinignal sample. Ill keep twiddling, but i think im stuck again. duh.

Sorry, I forgot to add that you need to uncheck the 'Parent/master send' tick box in th I/O section of the channel with the source audio on it. Image

did you route the audio back on itself?

I've never done this, but I presume all you need to do is send to one channel and recieve from the same channel...

So basically I've read over every thread on here about reaper and watched pretty much all the videos about it and decided that this is the DAW for me! As soon as I got it I was dumb founded and had no clue what to do but after getting use to the interface I am in love and don't plan on using anything else. Also I've always wanted logic and have been in a rut with money so I just got a logic theme to satisfy my needs until I can afford a mac. :D
