thats the thing though, dubstep is music, not a fucking scene...we arent scenesters...so lets go this way...not that way...

If you joined 14-15 months ago, why did you label yourself from Brooklyn, and not East London, as you had been living in East London for 3-4 months prior to that?Mechabot 01 wrote:Potemkin wrote:Also:
You're from Brooklyn, and I can imagine you haven't witnessed the kind of mainstream form Dubstep has taken here in the UK. In till you've done that, I wouldn't make so many judgements.
FAIL, I'm from south east london, I moved here 18 months ago.
Yeah, I was slightly confused when I read this. Every time I've seen either of those 2 it's not exactly been a wobbler with kids having it large event.newgunner wrote:It's one thing that Simon Reynold's dislikes Caspa's tunes which are in many ways pretty basic and a bit aggy (though I don't think he makes any bones about that) but to lump in Mala and Loefah who are undoubtedly two of the most talented producers
they're aint many, go uni for that, unless you count free nights..?Potemkin wrote:
And even if you are from East London, I question the number of Dubstep nights geared towards primarily students you've been to.
Thats a jokes point, fair playmilanese wrote:Plastician said it well and i agree... some discussion is always fine and people should always feel they can express their opinions.
But we've reached a stage now where we seem to be having a discussion about a discussion over an article that discusses how much discussion there was about someone's album, that album was itself called Everybody's Talking, Nobody's Listening... classic.
I would stop ur arguing b4 u make ur self look silly mate, mechabot has done alot more for uk dance music then u think, and what has student geared dubstep nights got to do within the grand scheme of things? also i wouldn't rule out the US for dubstep there's so much popping off there its ridiculous and you are still able to draw comparisons to the UK nights.Potemkin wrote:If you joined 14-15 months ago, why did you label yourself from Brooklyn, and not East London, as you had been living in East London for 3-4 months prior to that?Mechabot 01 wrote:Potemkin wrote:Also:

indeed, that's why i haven't even read this guys article or caspa's response for that matter. who gives a shit wot sum guy thinks about caspa's album, i'll listen to it when it arrives in the post sumtime soonish and decide.milanese wrote:Plastician said it well and i agree... some discussion is always fine and people should always feel they can express their opinions.

I haven't got my fingers in my ears, I know there's alot of music coming from the US. And regardless of Mechabots status, he still is inconsistent with his location, that's all.Rogue Star wrote: I would stop ur arguing b4 u make ur self look silly mate, mechabot has done alot more for uk dance music then u think, and what has student geared dubstep nights got to do within the grand scheme of things? also i wouldn't rule out the US for dubstep there's so much popping off there its ridiculous and you are still able to draw comparisons to the UK nights.
he could have changed his location in his user control panel, you knowPotemkin wrote: If you joined 14-15 months ago, why did you label yourself from Brooklyn, and not East London, as you had been living in East London for 3-4 months prior to that?
I'd be careful about what your saying here about Skream and Benga...Potemkin wrote:Me God damn it!
I want some thing to complain about.
It doesn't matter at all, really, as long as people are enjoying music.
The only reason I get annoyed is that loads of my friends exclusively like Caspa, Rusko, Skream and Benga, and refuse to listen to anything else, because it has no wobble, or isn't 'large' enough.
Ok, although i really don't understand what the deal is with pointing out a persons location inconsistencies.Potemkin wrote:I haven't got my fingers in my ears, I know there's alot of music coming from the US. My point is that the experience of going to FWD>>, DMZ, Subloaded, Dubloaded, Sub Dub, or HENCH is drastically different to [Instert generic name here] which has "DUBSTEP HIP HOP GRIME DNB FUNKY HOUSE GARAGE MASHUP BASHMENT!!!" on the flyer, and every other dubstep tune dropped is either Caspa, Rusko or Benga.
I am not arguing that those artists are inherently bad, or represent anything bad, I am arguing that the nights where their music is dropped are just... they remind me of political slogans printed on Tshirts made in Bangladesh. It's like it's been repackaged and branded to be sold as a label to put on a flyer, with the generic wobble as the sound to accompany it.
It's just not like the sound system and 'selecta' I'm used to.
This isn't about what I say and think, this is about what other people who's only knowledge or involvement with dubstep are those artists.Notez_ wrote:I'd be careful about what your saying here about Skream and Benga...Potemkin wrote:Me God damn it!

I dont seem to hear any "wobble" in midnight request line" or for that matter nearly all of skreams work. And benga....wobble?I'm slightly confused as to what you describe as "wobble"?
