I can't make my mind up about Drive. I enjoyed the majority of it but it tries soooo hard to be stylish and avoid cliches that it felt a bit empty towards the end for me. I think I would watch again, but I'm dubious. Watched Bronson a second time and it was terrible. They're quite similar in ways.

agreed. felt a bit aimless at times & the laconicism came off as try hard. definitely suffers from style over substance.

I thought it lacked neon. from the way it was marketed I was hoping for some Enter The Void-esque eye candy.

It wasn't a bad film but meh. I'd say 6/10, maybe 7 at a push.

Snowtown is fucking sick, proper haunting film. I'm fairly sure I've raved about it before in here. Bathroom scene is just evil.

Snowtown was harsh, it was filmed cold too and the score is good. Guy who plays main bad guy is such a good performance as well.

I'd give it a worthy 7/10. It's a good movie, presented the cold hard facts and the world surrounding them very well.

'The King of Kong' a documentary about people trying to get world records on classic arcade games. It's really good, almost unbelievably as some real people seem to be comedy characters straight from films like dodgeball.

I need some recommendations for a film to watch with the Mrs on Saturday. She likes True Romance, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Donnie Brasco etc.

Any ideas??

last few days...

Dianjiojojo unchained.. great film, sooooo OTT, but enjoyable.

The Hobbit... loved it! but i'm as love the whole middle-erf ting since a kid and just overlooked the massive issues with the film.

7 Psychopaths.. a let down compared to in Bruges not bad tho.

Cloud Atlas... dogshit.

I really enjoyed this too, but my housemate gave up after about 20 minutes refusing to believe any of them were real people!

It does almost seem like a set-up, but I guess if you're gonna be the #1 at Donkey Kong then you must be a bit weird!

I'm not usually against slow and/or uneventful movies. But boy, Lincoln was fucking boring.

Some of it was manipulated / jazzed up a bit to make it seem like more of a good vs evil situation than it was.

True, but the guy with the beard/black hair( lovely figure in the tattoo )was portrayed in a good light I believe. The director commented on that two years later or so, saying that he was actually a dark and bitter individual but because they wanted to preserve a certain light-heartedness to the documentary, they portrayed him in a better light than he deserved.

But they did twist some of the facts around to cater the rivalry (ie no mention of a third challenger, no mention that the nice guy improved his own record rather than that of his rival the second time around, and some continuance mistakes).
