I've worked with Ableton, Digital Performer, and a little bit of FL, and of course logic and the thing I love the most about logic is its amazing workflow. No switching windows or any shit like that, it's all RIGHT THERE.
Plus it's just a very powerful DAW, with great plugins and stock synths etc. I like logic's flex tool way better than ableton's warp tool.

whats better abelton live or fl studio? what makes it better? they sound the same to me what makes the sound quality better in one than the other? Ive used both in production and i can equally make the same kind of music with either i always say its what you make that comes from your mind thats more important than what you use. Abelton is better performance for live shows clearly but what separates it from fl studio for just mere production quality?

Currently, I use my iPad2 to make my music. When I get another laptop, I'll probably use Albeton if I can afford it, or reaper if I can't.

Whatever your feeling more,a DAW is what you make it. There is no set best one, in my opinion.

Well really it's a matter of personal preference. You can make could music on either it's just a question of your prefered work method.

Ableton does definitely have elements to it that make live performance with it easier but really it's all down to taste.

Personally I like Ableton. I find it suits my work flow and I fucking LOVE the effects rack on there's ability to run one channel through mutliple effects chains. So for example you can put an effects rack on one channel with three chains off effects on it and use filters to spilt the sound up into seperate frequency bands that can be processed individually (very useful for techy or reesey type bassline sound design). Essentially allowing for the sort of processing normally achieved with resampling to be done all on one Audio or MIDI channel. Each of these chains can also have effects racks placed on them too so you could seperate the high end from the low of the sound then spilt the high end into a further however many you wanted signal paths to be processed. Or even on the most simplist levels it offers a solution for keeping bass in mono while applying a stereo effect on the high end. Maybe you want sidechaining just on one part of the sound? etc.

Anyway I'm rambling. That's just one nifty feature I personally use all the time that Ableton has, I'm sure someone could come along and go "oooh I fucking love.... that can be done with FL. "

Just try both and go with whatever is best for you usage wise or what you think you personally make better tunes on.

Ive just started out. I decided to go with Reaper because it has a simple layout. But the thing I really wanted to say is that there is no one ultimate DAW for everybody. The best DAW is one that you can work with. Some poeple work with one better than another.

ja but Logic is the best.

I'd tell you how much Reaper is better than everything else but if you're not already using it you're probably a weak producer. I'd rather keep all the incompetent momos' hands off my DAW. Just go ahead and keep assuming it's a cheap non-contender.

Yeah man ugly interfaces are so hip right now. Really helps you to make ironic sounding tunes.

used reason logic and live in my time but they were all awkward as fuck

I use Renoise. At first i just bought is because it was cheap, but now I have fallen in love with it.

Things I like.

1. The tracker interface makes everything seem more orderly and logical

2. You don't have to open up a bunch of different windows to do everything. Everything is pretty much kept on one screen except vst gui's.

3. The built in sample editor is really useful for editing sounds, chopping up breaks, etc.

4. The pattern effect commands allow you to change volume, pitch, etc without having to mess with automation.

5. This is a minor thing, but it comes with a lot of good built in samples and effects.

6. Low CPU usage so i can run it on my crappy old laptop

Pretty much everything about FL has already been said.

The native synths completely blow abletons or any other DAWs out of the water tbh. Harmor, Sytrus, Vocodex are extremely powerful.

One thing I wish was in FL is the macro controls that are in ableton, I'll have to keep using xy controller for now

Ableton is the most complicated shit ever, I tried it 4 times and could never get into it, I spent at least 10 minutes looking for the master channel.

only if your a newb. you can disable the cords and use a very easy and efficient menu system to do routing.

(just wanted to point that out, reaper and reason are both dope, I have a number of releases using both programs on their own and rewired, using logic now)

I heard that the routing cables used in Reason aren't shielded so if you use a lot of them, eventually a bunch of hum builds up and eats up your headroom.

In Reaper if you drag and drop the I/O icon from one track to another it shows a little TRS jack, proving that Reaper uses balanced internal cables which cancel hum and result in superior sound quality.
