add to that, the fact that google wants the troll comments on videos. they would love 150 pages of bullshit comments. every single page of that, google makes money. its amazing how much entitlement people expect in the world of digital music. its based on a lot of people with nothing to lose.

you wouldn't go into a vinyl record shop, and hurl abuse at the staff about a producer, or a label. they wouldn't give a shit, and would tell you to gtfo. i don't walk into a bookstore and go buy a bukowski book, and then tell the publisher to go fuck themselves too.

(i've met kode9 and he's actually a true gent, he just isn't afraid to tell the 'OMGBURIALZZZZZZ' crew to fuck off. which i think is good personally. people get silly over burial's music.)

Actually, it just looks like he's a little pissy about the fact that people are like that about Burial, but not about him. Yeah, Burial has a bunch of rabid fans, so fucking what? Those fans are the reason Hyperdub and hell, Kode9 are relevant these days in the first place so he might as well show a bit more respect to them. Because he seriously looks like a little bitch every time he insults them. 'Wahwah, no one would care about wittle ol' me if it weren't for Burial, waaaah'. I mean, they're annoying little shits, don't get me wrong, but that doesn't justify him being an annoying little shit either.

Dunno where you get that whiny, "I wish it was me they worshipped" vibe from him. In his sometimes angry retorts, all I've come to understand is that he gets annoyed by people being mental about Burial because they are rabid, insistent, crazy internet weirdos. How exactly has he been an annoying little shit anyway? Because people are constantly messaging Hyperdub and asking when the new vinyl is out, when he CLEARLY wrote 10 minutes earlier that they are having pressing problems? All I see is a guy who created a label, ended up with a very successful artist on it who tends to inspire some crazy and blind behaviour from fans, and is still trying to figure out exactly how to deal with it all. Give the guy a break.

OK, maybe he is doing more harm than good to his own reputation when he does that. But:

Burial is not the reason Hyperdub and Kode9 are relevant. Obviously he has brought the label a lot of attention but Kode9 is "relevant" because he's a great producer/DJ/label head (personally I would give a fuck about him if he'd never found Burial, I think his music is 1000x better than Burial's anyway) and I seriously doubt he does it out of jealousy, he has nothing to prove that he hasn't already proved with a back catalogue of amazing releases. Burial isn't even the best thing on Hyperdub.

Oh something went wrong when I removed the tags. Whatever.

Thing is, insulting your customerbase just reeks of being classless. Period. I understand being impatient and annoyed with them, but these people are largely responsible for his label's success and his income. If he doesn't like them he should fucking ignore them or vent some other way.

I don't care about dubstep or marketing or what other people do.

As far as I am concerned everyone can do what they like, as long as it has consent and thought.

Every artist on hyperdub can think for themselves and the purpose of the label is to support them in what they do and try and help them get an audience for what they do, as their music is great and very honest and it deserves to be popular.

That means that I try and work my hardest to support them, as i'm the only person employed by Hyperdub and i do all I can as i believe in them, which is a crazy thing to do, when everyone thinks music is free now, but i still do.

For me it's a good thing when strange/ honest / emotional/ abstract / dark/ minority music like ours can reach a larger audience as this means we are beating all the other crap music out there and there is some hope for the world.

whats that zen proverb 'do not seek to follow in the footsteps of the masters, seek what they sought' - you get my meaning.

Ok then, why don't we flip it? If people are going to speak inflammatory comments insistently, regardless of being given an appropriate and cordial response the first few tries, why do you assume that the business has the desire to sell their wares to such an inhospitable customer?

Not every business has to be modeled on Wal-Mart style blank eyes grinning mouth always Yes Yes Yes. Or whatever the equivalent is where you are from.

I own and run a local business in the small town where I'm from, if a customer comes in a speaks in a derisive way to myself, my customers, my staff, or of my business I am always willing to express my response in whatever manner I see fit, regardless of how PG it may or may not be and then promptly refuse service.

You don't always have to break your back for the lowest common denominator. People respect that far more then spineless servants.

yeah, it's acceptable to act "classlessly" when you're dealing with classless people.

and who says these rabid weirdos are responsible for his income? for all we know they could pirate his music.

All as a result of the internet having no quality control.
Did hyperdub just shorten the samples on the website? :u:

I just read that Quietus article and I am always amazed how words can expand on the simplest of things.
