except he's fat.
i wholeheartedly disagree.missbrass wrote:margins are supposed to be a quarter of an inch.
I agree with horse here. From a practical perspective, i agree that work containing type needs a certain amount of space between the type and the edge of the work for the sake of readability but i would leave the decision of the distance between said type and the edge of the work up to the designer.horse wrote:i wholeheartedly disagree.missbrass wrote:margins are supposed to be a quarter of an inch.
i hate design that conforms to some preconceived notions of what should and shouldnt be done purely because someone once decided it should be so.
well as far as print goes you need margins, otherwise your shit gets cut in half.horse wrote:i wholeheartedly disagree.missbrass wrote:margins are supposed to be a quarter of an inch.

Yeah 3 mm bleed and 3 mm margin should do the trick.Are-K142 wrote:true missbrass...missbrass wrote:well as far as print goes you need margins, otherwise your shit gets cut in half.horse wrote:i wholeheartedly disagree.missbrass wrote:margins are supposed to be a quarter of an inch.

i've always used a 3mm margin as standard tho
hehe, which is roughly a quarter of an inch alltogether ...ch3 wrote:

stop describing my life stalker.horse wrote:always 3mm bleed yes but why cant you have type/images that runs off/is cut in half/at weird angles etc etc
obviously this wouldnt go if you were laying out a maths textbook or some sort of diy manual but you get my drift.
i dont like constraints is all. working in design studios has, in my experience been one of the most creatively stifled, monotonous and rigid environments to work in.
rows of shiny macs and angular translucent furniture. soft grey carpet and ergonomic workstations lined up according to the rules of feng shui like humming automatons.
it horrifies me.
which is why i dont work in design-as-a-career anymore.
i do it for myself, on my own terms, in my bedroom.
i work on what i want, for who i want, when i want.
give me chaos and unpredictability. give a room full of colour & inspiration. i want piles of books & magazines. i want unruly stacks of paper covered in doodles and scribbles. i want inappropriately loud music playing and endless armies of empty coffee cups.
if it doesnt inspire/scare/amuse or challenge me then i dont wanna know about it...
massive inspiration to me.
all designers should watch this
