My first track ever.. feedback welcome. It's pretty short at 2:24, and the levels are kinda fucked, but that's why they call it a work-in-progress!

Two new (unfinished) ones up on the Myspace, both are relatively mellow, trying to mess around with new or different chords/progressions for me. kinda worked. top two in the player

checked out four of your tunes man - the one thing that I felt was lacking in all of them were your drum sounds, they sounded bland to me. your synths on the other hand are sound ill, nice one man.

yeah im usually pretty sparse and dry on the drums. especially these two.

used to concentrate too much on drums so ive got into the habit of tryin not to mess with em too much, but i do agree, theyre pretty basic.

The Past:
Really nice and dubby track, although, i don't know, maybe it's my headphones, i don't hear the bass.


Stranger Song - Absence remix:
Although i like the feel of the track, i simply don't get the bass.
from 2:28 the samples become really good. the drums are nicely syncopated, but again i can't relate to the bass.

Stranger Song - Romane:
I'm overwhelmed by 8bit-type music, loved quarta 330's remix of 9 samurai(give it a whirl, it's great), this one's nice too, but the drums should be crushed little more.

The Delf - Old Master:
Nice, warm and bubbly feel, please proceed:)

ChrisH - Growl:
Is a big one, but need a lot more middle freqs and some less hi-freqs.
actually it pierces my ears too much on the hi.
besides maybe a little more dampening on the drums reverb.
a punchier snare, with a bit of attack on the compressor and higher treshold.

ChrisH - OneandOne:
Simply doesn't catch me. The chopped up sample should be grittier, dirtier, just not so clean.
All in all it doesn't have a real flow.

Redbeard - K.t.q.:
I like the drums, A LOT:) the bass really got its grip on me, it's huge.
but some more variation would suit it, some octavejumps, some faster or slower wobble.
the transformer transformsound fits perfectly.

Mqfluqerton - like you mean it:
Starts off very impressive, the chords add very cool, sounds so balearic with those. the flanger is pretty cool.

Saturday Dub,
has a nice feel, I love the style and the synth work. Turn up your hi-hats and add some sparkle by boosting between 6 and 10 khz, your kick is terribly weak and so is your snare, a little layering of some more samples on that kick and a good heavy boost at 80hz would really move this tune along so much better and make it dancefloor ready maybe. Your snare needs layering too, try adding a few more snare samples to the one you already have, boost around 5khz and add some tasty reverb. I suggest experimenting with some panning on that synth that kicks of the tune as well, it would be nice with all the movement you already have if instead of having one synth in the right side of the field and on in the left you moved them around a bit, I hear a little panning on the delay of the one that's on the left but more would be better on both imo. Subs. Subs are part of what makes dubstep what it is and unfortunately for this delightful, catchy tune, it has absolutely none. So make some sine waves, boost em heavily around 60-75 hz and play some counterpoint notes to go along with your synth work and you'll have a song. I also think that this tune would benefit greatly from some hand percussion and some drum fill work. With a couple of good drum breakdowns, some bass movement, extra percs to move through the transitions, and some variations in your chord progressions on your synths, you could prolly just copy and paste what you have, double it, make your changes then and be done with this and maybe end with a listenable product. Good job! Keep workin!

Say What- I straight up don't like this tune, nice vocal samples, goes nowhere imo. Not a new idea, not very creative, seems like a real sell out after the vibe of Saturday dub.

pk- sounds awesome, I really like the drums on this one. I also like the minimalist feel you've got for it. I'm kinda new to dubstep production, so I can't get too technical about it, but well done! Keep it up, this should be a good track when its finished.

@LHD- Yeah, you're probably right.. I usually lurk around forums for a while before I post, but haven't been around much. Also, like I said, I'm completely new to production, so my .02 isn't worth much.

mqfluqerton- sounds great on my laptop speakers I like your use of samples. I wish I had some monitors to hear the bass well.

So, this is Swedens first production, ever. We're making music history mate, history.

Very, very, very rough cut of our first try at this. Quality is shit and the bassline might be a bit repetetive, but keep in mind that this is a debut-production.

baba- I'll have to agree with LHD on the second tune, something about it just doesn't sound right. The bass is all over the place, doesn't really seem like it has much musical structure. Saturday Dub sounds cool though! A lot of people are afraid of using too many synths, I say bring 'em on!

@Clemsonheadies- Tune just a bit loud, synth work is quite nice, that 808 lacks just a bit of crispness, and the arrangement seems off just a bit in some places. sounds like you either need to sidechain your kick to your bass or re-eq both, lose that transformer sound, hurts the tune imo, doesn't add to it, vocal sample really doesn't do much for me either and if kept they need to be re-eq'd and turned down, hurts me ears. Can't hear the hi-hats and the snare is weak too. Imo you would be better served with some rimshot and clap layered action for a snare, something warmer to go with your pleasant melody, you should strip this down, keep the synth work and re-do your drums imo, use some flavor, something with lots of movement to carry the synths and move them around better. Not much in the way of a bass line either, not a whole lot movement or real language or soul in what you've got so far, except the synth, which I find very tasteful. Peep this link and listen to this guys tunes. May help you ge some ideas.

Also have you read all the gain structure and producer's bible threads? Good place to start, good creative start to your tune, time to work hard and grow, great job!

I think that bassline needs more room, just turn up your speakers, but give your stuff more headroom. The production in general needs work, but that'll come the more music you guys make. Choose your drume more carefully, and maybe split up each element so you can edit and control the drums better. I guess the arrangement needs work, as you've said, but it's really hard to judge and give advice when all I can say is keep making music, and keep improving.
