I reckon this actually might not be so much of an unpopular view. WW2, the need to pay off its debts and the fear of ever repeating WW1 or 2 was the catalyst for the UN, NATO, the EU, widespread socialisation of healthcare.

But then you could argue that the 60s-90s proved that Cold War can be just as effective for spurring progress as an actual worldwide conflagration - perhaps the concept of mutually assured destruction trumps it...

Europeans are stupid. If it wasn't for WW2, they would probably only be eating cheese. WW2 showed them what mass production is all about so when it was over they had large factories and cities to rebuild.

But if I had to be serious. I think European history, especially the last 200 years is too much of a hodgepodge where you can't pinpoint one thing as a defining moment that saved or ruined it. Well, we industrialized, but then mostly with the help from America who were notoriously expanding their influence and empire and they did it to contain the Soviets. And I don't like the Soviet empire either, but you know, right now in 2013, what would've been worse? Would the Soviet Empire dissolved sooner if it had unsupred more of Europe? Or would both the American and Soviet empire fallen apart a long time ago? Would the cold still be cold?

I don't know. Too many factors. Though I wouldn't call something that whiped millions of people off the face of the Earth 'the best' of anything. Though I think Ashley was kidding in the first place.

Personally I think in terms of movies he's only made one good film and that was Devils Rejects and music wise White Zombie were alright and he has maybe a couple solo tracks I like.

The first Halloween that he did was kinda cool I remember just cuz it looked into Meyers' backstory a bit more. I had really low expectations going into it so I was pleasantly surprised. The second one is absolute dog shit though.

Really really got to disagree there about the first one. It's still awful

I think pretty much all his movies are the same.
Also I noticed a lot do actually like those Halloween movies, only 1 and 2 are epic, oke, 2 isn't from John Carpenter but it does have the same actors and fits well.
If you haven't seen the originals you will miss out on a lot of the story as well, not to mention that the tnuc doesn't know when to stop. 1 "remake" oke, 5 or 6? Seriously, fuck off.
