I've seen a documentary about alcoholics in rehab, even though they didn't had a single drop of alcohol they still got drunk off water.
Just like when you give a group non- alcholic drinks and convince them it contains acohol, they all get drunk. And even though the placebo-effect is something mental, it still isn't weak.

It doesn't work the other way around though. You can't drink alcohol thinking it's acohol free and not get drunk.
