A modern talking osc pitched down to -12 just sounds like muck. Not sure if anyone has ever actually made a good growl with modern talking. I'd say the culprit for overused growls is the WOW filters vocal filter.
WOW is good if used right.

I keep seeing people just slap it on in tutorials, without any thought. They'll have standard vowels (O > I), and LFO automating like 1/4, a shit ton of resonance and a high wet % which makes it so obvious because it actually kills a lot of the original sound. If you use it right and in moderation, it really can sound great.
i dont really like wows vowel filter since it sounds like its only adding resonance, i cant hear the difference without resonance.
maybe use it in series or something... idk i'm more into frequency shifting lately

What? Modern talking is great for making growls. It might be a bad idea to use it though, because (1.) morph and range of the vowel is predetermined in the WT and (2.) it's getting boring. Regardless, lots of great "growls" have been made using MT (producers like KTN and xKore has confirmed this many times over).

Obvious Skrillex sampling is obvious
i'm flattered that you think they sound that good but I ASSURE you that I made that. Perhaps you could point to the particular song a sampled if you are so observant?
I think he is reffering to the one at 1:07, as it sounds a bit like a muffled version of the growl at 0:45

How did u make it...I'm guessing FM8 with pitch envelope and some filter automation?

well i can show you a bunch of different tracks all with diff growls. CLEARLY I sampled all solo synth sounds from skrillex songs.. because that is easy to fake

You don't need to use a wow filter, you can make vowels much easier:
Image

Just pick your vowel, and boost 3 frequencies of that vowel. Then automate from one frequency, to another vowel's frequency. That's how I made this:

It really depends how you use it tbh.

You don't need WOW, but it's great to add it in a chain among other things.

I was thinking more along the lines of reptile, there's a growl at the end that sounds very similar to the one you pointed out in his track. If you made it yourself then thats cool but with the amount of people sampling him these days it's hard to pick anymore.....

I made that exact bass you're talking about in Massive, I'll post a clip later.

Also, guys, not to shit on everyone that's talking about Knife Party's basses but:

https://twitter.com/rob_swire/statuses/ ... 4434473985

EDIT: Here y'all are, made it after the reptile bass at the end of the song. (The automations aren't trying to copy that tune I just made some arbitrary automation's to example the bass for you poo heads)
Soundcloud

Here's a screeny of how simple the proj is: http://i.imgur.com/NnEHH.png

I'll give away the flp, if you guys want. You need Massive 1.3 (The .NMSV bullshit) and FL 10.0.8 (I think).

Also, I know it sounds like I recorded the sound through a 1/2 mile pipe, thats just a combination of Soundcloud's shit-fuck compression and my 30 second vocodex patch. If I were to take a lot more time on the vocodex stuff it would sound a lot cleaner.

I posted the whole Knife Party/Sylenth thing earlier... like I keep saying it really doesn't matter what synth you use as long as you know it well enough to be original.

Also don't want to seem like I'm shit talking but you have no bass in your "bass".

If anyones interesting, Zomboy had a live stream yesterday, and in this video at about 9:07. He plays a preview of a random track he's working on, they are some very cool basses in there so thought I would share:

The FLP would be nice, post it when you get a chance. I would like tp play around with the sound. But the gentlemen above makes a good point, this sounds needs to be layered with a sub bass. It just purely mid-high range noise. Doesn't have any punch or umhff to it.

Needs more distortion to be a Skrillex bass but whatever, still pretty similar. Here's my take on the growl bass:

And here it is in context. Excuse the bad mixdown:
