Less producers only playing their own tunes. Like Kryptic Minds. Fuck is that about.

More live instrumentation? Saw a Shigeto performance where he was on the drums. Blew me away.

Most artists get booked based on the tunes they make and not their mixing skills, selection, rare dubs etc. (ex. Skrilly willy)SCope13 wrote:Whats that even supposed to meanwehlfest wrote:More focus on the DJ instead of the producer.

If I pay money to see Kryptic Minds (which I did, a year ago), I want to hear Kryptic Minds tunes. You don't go to a Foo Fighters concert to hear them do White Stripes covers.Harkat wrote:Less producers only playing their own tunes. Like Kryptic Minds. Fuck is that about.
Re: What does electronic music need more/less of in 2013?
Well this depends. Yeah you want to hear a bit of their stuff (preferably unreleased) but simply hearing someone just play a load of their own tunes mixed and nothing else is often going to be a bit boring as a dj set. Especially as Kryptic Minds are pretty boring overall.Maccaveli wrote:If I pay money to see Kryptic Minds (which I did, a year ago), I want to hear Kryptic Minds tunes. I mean there are djs I've seen who don't even stick to the genres they're known for good portions of sets and that's great.
Re: What does electronic music need more/less of in 2013?
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate variety in sets, I mean the best UK DJ set I saw last year was Skream's, and he played everything from classic disco and techno to 2006-era dubstep to Dismantle and Feed Me. With Kryptic Minds though, I wouldn't really expect them to play a huge variety of artists, especially since they're the cream of the crop when it comes to their sound. If you like the artist enough to pay to see them, why would you not want to hear their own tunes?

spesh down our ways, not like we have an abundance of producers to see play out.

why would you go to see the foo fighters at all though?
Re: What does electronic music need more/less of in 2013?
When I go to see Kryptic Minds, I want to hear "their sound" to some extent, but not just a list of their own productions. That's not a good set, that's a showcase of a producer. I can do a mix of their discography in my bedroom myself (save for the dubplates). A good DJ plays tunes from all across the map, a good proportion of which his audience won't have heard before, and makes it all fit into a consistent vibe. Your own tunes can certainly fit into such a set, but shouldn't take up 90% of it.
