rape scene predictably hard to watch, but still a fantastic movie
the fire extinguisher scene has to be one of the only times i've felt psychically sick from watching a movie.. it's all kinds of nasty.

ignore the cringey soundtrack and you've got a good movie with the classic Japanese twist-at-the-end approach

Brilliant film but utterly miserable.
yeah, pretty powerful film.
the "uncle fucking bully" scene is grim

^hope it had some effect on the violence & alienation it portrayed
if you want a film that quietly takes you to a new (real) world
I'd recommend Tabu
It looks like it's gunna be annoyingly quirky at first
but then it gets gritty in the Madrid scenes that deal with dementia & death
(though not as harrowing as the superlative Amour)
Hang in there though
cos it's kinda beautiful when it moves to Mozambique.
Gomes, the director, has a distinctive vision.

Watched "A serbian film" after it had been mentioned a few times on here... That film is messed up. Was it a happy ending? Is it necessary? Really dont know how I feel about it tbh... Felt quite hollywood or over the top at times.

Sleepers
Incredibly good.
Anchorman
Some guys seem to be really obsessed with this one lately but to be real honest I don't know what all the hype is about. Didn't think it was thát funny.
Also watched Lost Highway and Mulholland Dr. this week which were both fantastic. Definitely recommended if you haven't seen 'em yet.

The Fan, with DeNiro ans Wesley Snipes. Great concept for a movie...but it was unnecessarily disturbing at points, which took away from the suspense/thriller aspect

I love The Fan. I didn't find it too disturbing, apart from Deniro shaving his legs with his knife all over that guy's desk. One of his cooler roles though, reminded me of like Travis Bickle 20 years after Taxi Driver.
Your typo makes it read like 'DeNiro as Wesley Snipes'. Now THAT would be disturbing.
@vishes
absolutely agree on all points.

that drone is being used to terrifying effect in the insidious 2 trailer

Adventureland
Surprising funny/entertaining. Don't watch it if you're not a fan of Eisenburg, Kristen Stewart is actually not bad as a stoner with issues. Plenty of running jokes/80s-tastic bits that made me laugh throughout. Would recommend.

^Excellent come-down film imo
sd5 - thanks for the Tabu recommendation. I'll check that out at some point.
Looper
Pretty good actually. Good story, excellent visuals and very stylish. Bit of a problem with the ending (your man didn't have to make things quite so 'final' as far as I can see) but overall I thought it was decent.
6.5/10

After Earth :
Another third rate sci-fi movie. One plus though: only 1,5 hours long a rarity these days. Three or four absurd plot twists. Bad acting by Smith Jr. More post-Apple/iPhone graphics. Forgettable characters.
Anchorman is great, but the funniest bits are actually the extended out-takes (they're on youtube, it's really all about those).

yeah Irreversible is really well executed. Don't think I'd watch it again though. Felt like I'd been raped.

An absolute classic. Sadly unknown to your average punter along with nearly everything pre-1970. Gives me an idea for a thread actually...

Might be my favourite Welles flick (well, film starring Welles). Need to get my act together and watch more of Reed's work.
