That would be a neat progression for him though. As much as I love his mopey side, it be interesting to see what he could do with some more positive emotions.

Love how people assign emotion to Burial tracks, like we know anything about the guy. A lot of the tracks I made are pretty "sad" sounding, but I'm anything but depressed.

Yeah well, all art is open to interpretation. If you make a lot of sad music, it's just natural for people to assume you're a sad guy... it's the image you're projecting. Nothing to be offended about.

I wouldn't call Burials music sad. More...nostalgic really, which is also sort of positive.

although his tunes sound kinda sad and downbeat for some unknown reason they make me really happy. i was listening to the kindred EP when i was cleaning my house and was just walking around grinning like a knob

It happens to James Blake a lot too, but that's the only other example I can think of. Probably because most other producers are too caught up in the technical side of production to make anything even remotely heartfelt If you want to hear something forced though, listen to a bad Owsey or Sorrow tune haha. I like both of them, but, at their worst, they can sound like their just trying to make super emotional music to get laid.

There's this...thing? Right before the third bit of Ashtray Wasp, that sounds like someone in an alley being attacked by some vicious creature. There's always one or two unsettling, kinda David Lynch-styled moments in each of his releases; there was the "you look different" in In McDonalds, the bathroom mirror bit at the end of the first lp, and now this.

I love his unsettling moments in his tunes. Some are moreso than others, but even in minor amounts they are all over the place. For example, the distorted guitar (?) that comes in HARD once during Ashtray Wasp. I look forward to sounds like this because they create tension, but in the most satisfying way.

god the "you look different" hits me so hard every time. david lynch-esque describes it really well actually

This has nothing to do with the Kindred EP

but I just noticed that Street Halo has the cat# HDB013... Why is that?
it seems as though the number was skipped intentionally, so was this just really really delayed by 2 years and Kode just decided to set aside that cat# way too early or is it something else?

anyone know?

Many labels miss out 13, Superstitious and all that.
Kode9 probably eventually thought fuck it.
I doubt it was his intention all along to save it.
Also it is interesting that both of his last two releases are the same colour & design as South london Boroughs and Ghost Hardware. Could the next release by the same as Distant lights??

I meant at 9:17. Not really hearing anything unsettling at 7 minutes, that actually sounds like one of the brightest parts of the tune.

he put out raver a long time ago and didn't stick to the 4X4 then, so I think it's going to be ok...
