80% sounds a little excessive, but I think he (and most actors/actresses) would be cool with like 55-60%. Above 60% is pushing it imo.DRTY wrote:Also he seems to hate on big business/big wealth... he's all up for trying to relate to 'average joe', what with his 7/8 figure salary an all that. Having had a drug addiction 15 years ago doesn't change his current status. Would he be happy to pay, say 80% tax on his earnings so people less fortunate could become a little more fortunate? I doubt it.
true dat. that's actually a very good idea. voluntary taxes. instead of donating your money to sketchy charities that might spend it on shady stuff (and there are a lot of those out there), you should be able to donate it to the government, so they can decide what the best thing to do with it is.garethom wrote:Don't see a problem with a voluntary 80% bracket so that kindly, concerned souls such as Russell Brand can pay the way they so dearly want to.
well it's not like you would have to donate EXACTLY 80%. you could donate however much extra money you want on top of your taxes. I don't know how much taxes your average liberal millionaire actor/actress pays. it varies by state, but most of them live in California obviously. I think cali's top marginal income tax rate is like 13%. So add property, sales, and all the other taxes in there, maybe the richest people pay like 30-40%.SCope13 wrote:except that would never work. You really think people are going to willingly donate 80% of their income lol?
That's the point being made though. A lot of celebrities that talk about the rich doing more for the poor folk should have it made as easy as possible to pay a much higher tax rate. Consider it the "Money Where Your Mouth Is" tax bracket.SCope13 wrote:except that would never work. You really think people are going to willingly donate 80% of their income lol?
oh really? Did not know that. if that's the case, they should really do a better job at making people aware of it.dididub wrote:no one's banning you from donating money to the government lol
u can do that already. voluntary extra taxes (i.e. donations) exist
unlikely, but it'd put douche bags like Brand in a bit of an awkward spot lol.SCope13 wrote:except that would never work. You really think people are going to willingly donate 80% of their income lol?
