feel like these guys unfairly get written off as cheesy 80s synth pop. just bought speak and spell and some great reward. two favorite albums from my youth. listening to the classic dark synth sounds of some great reward brings back a lot of memories and also reminds me how influential they were to much of the music i love, industrial, techno etc. think im gonna have to bust out some black eyeliner and buy black celebration again as well.

I seen em twice at Key Arena. Beautifully dark brood synthpop. One of the few groups out there who have influenced just about everybody, directly or vicariously.

I grew up on DM too!"Fly On The Windscreen" and "New Dress" aren't 80's cheese at all!They were kinda one of the pioneers for the whole dance-industrial thing,along with Cabaret Voltaire,Test Dept.,and 23 Skidoo.Perfect examples are "Everything Counts"(actually a lot from 'Construction Time Again'),"People Are People","and"Master And Servant".They were even partially responsible for starting Darkwave,especially noted in the sparse,minimal beats and neo-classical synth arrangements,in some ways,like "Blasphemous Rumours" and "A Question Of Lust",as well as pretty much most of the Martin Gore written stuff.Did you get into his solo records(as Martin L. Gore)?

I once heard Yes reffered to as "representing the best and the worst of progressive rock".I kind of think DM was kind of like that for 80's Synthpop/New Wave.Amazing,cutting edge music at times,but really mainstream pop too(but I still like that stuff too).

Another record I can think of that is passed off as 80's cheese,but is absolutely brilliant,was Ministry's 'With Sympathy'.Once 'Twitch'(one of my top 10 favourite industrial albums of all time!!!) came out,it was almost completely forgotten.

Are you into Danse Society,OMD,Frazier Chorus,Chris & Cosey,Nitzer Ebb(the inventors of EBM imo),Section 25,Clan Of Xymox,Heaven 17,Soft Cell,and Fad Gadget too?

love nitzer ebb. funny, depeche mode used to open for fad gadget(at least that's what i've read. i wasn't around then).

I saw them at Wireless this summer, and bar sound issues it was awesome.

I'm not mad keen on all of their stuff, but "Enjoy the Silence" is one of the darkest love songs ever
