What do you think about this?

i just stumbled across it...i recalled this being discussed on here not so long ago...i'd like to hear the perspective of women as well...
Women are simply more consultative beings than men are. For whatever reason, they are more timid about making bold statements and deviating from normalcy. They can't shop for clothes alone, they can't judge men alone, and they can't even urinate alone. They support each other through groupthink. Because of this, the average woman's musical taste is more bland and typical. They don't want to be "on the outside".
"But wait," you might say "not all girls listen to pop music exclusively." This is correct. Some women do indeed venture outside of society's musical comfort zone, but their reasons for doing so are rarely musically-motivated. These women are simply looking for a scene or subculture to wedge themselves into, using music as another fashion tool. It's all about image. How many "artsy" girls do you know who insist that their taste is "atypical", "unique", or "eclectic" who have an iPod full of the same girl-friendly, Pitchfork-approved artists like Radiohead, Sigur Ros, and the like? Quite a few, I'd wager. Women are generally considered to have bad taste because they lack any true interest in musical discovery.
Want further proof? How many girls do you know who are into Noise? Who are into Krautrock? Rock in Opposition? Classical avant-garde? Not many. This is because these styles of music, while unique, cutting-edge, and extremely rewarding, have no fashion culture built around them, and no cute boys who listen to and perform these types of music. Music is another article of clothing for women, and it makes basement-dwelling experts froth at the mouth whenever females claim otherwise

it does make you wonder...who wants to be seen as sexist but generally the women i have known have proved this to be the case...with a few exceptions

Too bad you can't say anything bout women anymore without being sexist.
Also the article seems logic in some way.

Its typically full of kids age 16 and below. Most stuff that comes out of there is utter waste. I mean, this debate might be exempt from the rule perhaps. But generally speaking, it's the anus of the internet.

Utter bollix...plenty of women I know are into all kinds of art, literature and fashion and arent afraid to stick up for what they like, the quote applies to 90% of the people on this planet.
And lets face it, men are more likely to sit at home masturbating to the Henry Cow box set (10 fucking CDs!) or Faust or Xanakis cos we are NERDZ

I do think guys usually have a better music taste in general. That's because society encourages guys to discover things and be knowledgeable. Girls? Not so much, they're encouraged to admire guys, to make guys feel smart, feel knowledgeable. It doesn't have as much to do with fitting in. Guys and girls just behave in ways that society wants them to, through years of conditioning starting at an early age.
And I know plenty of girls who are only music fans to fit in.... I also know plenty of guys who have a male ego to uphold and would never in their lives even hint that they're just listening to music to fit in, though if you look more closely, you can see they do too.

gotta agree with gene
its about social moulding. we are far from equal in society yet.
Also this idea that good musical taste involves liking some underground experimental unknown is utter crap. Im not saying I like a lot of pop, but ther is plenty I do like.

to be fair i don't think he's saying either is good or bad...he's answering the guys question and putting it on his terms...
basically he's saying females get into either the underground or pop stuff for the same reason...to fit in and align themselves as opposed to for the music

Many risks expose women to rape
and rape exposes them to pregnancy
which is potentially life-threatening for two beings.
Women tend to need cooperatively-structured societies to avoid being exposed to such risks, so are, sensibly, more inclined to conform or seek the herd for protection.
Always exceptions but you don't find a lot of women sleeping under bridges.
And even when women follow avant-garde movements, I note that many conform to the tenets of that subculture or are instrumental in creating the mores that identify that subculture, and so their comfort-zone..
but this view will seem too proscriptive to some

If you define having a personal, unique, music taste as a 'risk', that is.
Not saying it is, not saying it isn't.

I find this reality despicable, by the way. If I ever have a daughter, she will get cool toys like Legos and such. To encourage her creativity and interest in science. There's a reason there are more male engineers than female ones and when you consider that boys get cars, trains, Legos and shit like that and girls get dolls and dollhouses, you can clearly see that boys are encouraged to think from an early age, whereas girls are encouraged not to 'think' and just 'do', even if girls are every bit as capable of science work as guys are.
Female brains are wired slightly differently (the mass of a female brain is the same as the male brain, but the individual parts of the female brain are more closely packed, thus they process information in a slightly different way), but not that different.

We all know Lego is an international ploy to get children into the idea of either being part of the military, the space programme or the construction industry.
Because of Lego, I can only think in square-esque symmetry. Sorting fixtures in my old job was hell if things didn't match up in a Lego-like fashion.
