PCI / USB

So i'm going to get some sort of interface,

So far i'm thinking just get a e-mu 0404 pci card (or a 2496) and slap it in as I allready have a mixing desk so can just tape in and out from this and presto, upgraded sound.

I'm thinking PCI as I feel it should be faster and more stable than USB

Am I wrong here?

But n i've started playing around with Live for DJ'ing i'm wondering about going for multiple outs for the purpose of monitoring / mixing.

What doth the oracle thinketh?

pci should be more stable, theres plenty of cards out there that offer multiple outs

why not go for the delta 1010?

I reccomend the PCI card

if you are thinking about the EMU 0404, you should splurge $50 more for the 1212m

it's a much better card and spending an extra $50 is definately worth it

just my thoughts

PCI over USB all the way.

sweet thanks a lot, got the replies from the names I respect most round here, good stuff.

In terms of getting the dj side of things going on, am I likely to face any hardships assigning things to different outputs on the card? or should this be simple enough?

should be simple enough

but the EMU 0404 isn't a 4 out card like you might think

1 pair of 1/4 inch stereo outs (2 mono)

and either stereo SPDIF out or optical out (can't use both at once)

bah.

nice one for the heads up about the none simultanious nature of the bugger, goes with the price I geuss.

This is the scenario I wasn't looking for, seperate mono outs to mix/monitor, allthough it would work right?

Ok looked at the delta 1010, bit pricey for what I need to be honest.

And the emu 1212m is in the same boat, only real upshot of this card I can see would be pre-amps which I have on my mixer anyway.. Am I wrong? (assuming the breakoutbox comes with for free that is)

Would you say there is a huge difference in the converters? and surely the difference in the signal to noise ratio shouldn't be audible at this level?

and yeah I'll be leaving the apc alone I've pretty much dealt with my gear lust in terms of control surfaces, got everything I need for live for now in my Nanoseries 8)

yeah i'm pretty much set on the 1212 now -

just to clarify could I actualy use this for Dj application? Ie seperate monitoring on headphones?

as i'm not sure from the site howmany ins and outs it actualy allows simultanious use of

I have the motu 828 mk2 firewire over here. Had the emu pci before, it was more stable. But the motu is pretty stable too.. i guess it depends on the manufacturer.

Oh-Kay

Upon further investigation i'm looking at going outboard ie breakoutbox style,

Any opinions on the Delta44?

Anyone used it with live, possible to monitor a seperate channel to the main mix?
