Native Instruments VST that is.

When I run it, it runs as a separate application (.exe) and upon putting it in the VST file for Ableton, it doesn't show up at all.

I know you're most likely sick of hearing things like this but I want to know

never used this... but maybe you can rewire it with ableton, if it works for you

How, exactly?

I've been making things with it but they save as .ksi or something so they're unusable on Ableton.

Are you on PC or Mac?

Sounds like you have installed in the wrong location. You can also go in Ableton's preferences and try to rescan plugins.

Otherwise it sounds like some googling and a re-install is in order.

PC. I've googled everything I can think of and looked for a converter of these .ksi files to something compatible.

rewire is a method of using two separate programs at the same time.. one is master and the other is slave

i don't know if massive supports rewire, if it's so.. run ableton first then massive and set up one of the live's channels as an imput for massive

You have to save the KSI files in the Massive folder I think. It's their proprietary format for presets (Google this)

Then, you shouldn't be working in standalone mode. It sounds like this was installed incorrectly, so try re-installing b/c you should be able to open within Ableton.

Make sure the Massive VST DLLs are installed to the folder that Ableton is looking at for Plugins..... the location is under the File tab in Options, IIRC (not in front of Ableton right now).

That hasn't worked, there aren't any Massive DLLs anywhere on my computer, just setup.exe and the actual program.

What hasn't worked? (for us to help we need you to clearly describe what is going on, what you have tried, etc)

1. Have you uninstalled then reinstalled?
2. Have you contacted Native Inst's customer support?
3. Have you gone on the Native Inst forums to see if there is a thread about this?

1. Not yet
2. Not yet, but good idea
3. Yeah, loads of people have the problem but there aren't solutions.

i think you just haven't installed massive properly

when you start setup.exe, it will first ask you where you want to install the program, you can just leave this part.
it will then ask you for a vst directory ie. where the .dll files are located on your computer.
navigate to the ableton vst folder and click ok
then open up ableton and it should be in the plug ins section in the browser

Okay, well as I said in my first post. Uninstall then reinstall, start with the easiest solutions first, this is most likely the issue.

im speaking from an osx machine, but i would assume it would be similar regarldess...

make sure the proper vst file it is in the default vst program
rescan default folder in ableton preferences

done :)

hi, very simple solution to this one. you probably installed massive in to a different location to the default one.. so go to ableton>preferences (i think you can press ctrl+, to open it) > click "files folders" on the left pane > now either press "rescan", or if that fails, set the custom folder to the folder where your .vst for massive resides.

there is also the possibility that when you installed massive, you accidently chose not to install the .vst and just decided to install the standalone version. if none of the above works, just reinstall massive (your patches will still work).

Ok heres my theory:

Massive is a 64 bit plugin so I am pretty sure you are running 64 bit windows.

If that is so the problem lies in the fact that Ableton is a 32 bit program, so the 64 bit plugins wont always work. I was able to use some 64 bit vsts with my mac version but the same plugins wont work on my windows version of Ableton.

I am having the same issue as you and I am trying to see if we can use Rewire as a workaround >_<

The obvious - are you sure you're looking in the right place in Ableton? It won't be in the same place as the built-in ableton devices, there's a little plug icon below it for third party plugins.

It should not matter where you installed it to on your hdd, as long as you scanned for it correctly in Abelton.. if you have not read the manual I suggest you do so. If you have further problems with massive crashing once located correctly you need to delete massive d.b file in app data/local/temp

Solution to this:

Put Massive (dll) in Ableton's VST folder, do not create sub-folders.
