Your music vs Your sleeping pattern

Who else is affected by their brain working overtime?
If I have a new track on the go the sleeping patten goes out the window. At the moment my body clock seems to be on US east coast time...
Trying to sleep is murder, I'm lying there working on a track in my head. I want/need to go to sleep when it is dark more often. This can't be good for my mental health. I NEED SLEEP.

always appease those little beat conductors in your head, you can sleep when your dead......
ha, nah... i find it comes in cycles.... i'll get like 4hrs sleep 4 or 5 nights in a row and pump a few good tunes out, then catchup for the next few days.... i've been doing this for about 2 - 3 years. I found i'm most creative at night and long periods in the studio give the steepest learning curve.
maybe one day i'll get the balance right

I have no problems what so ever falling asleep. I work hard, my body just shuts down when my head hits the pillow. Because I have a family I do have to work after the kids are in bed but then I have to get up early for work so it is a big problem. You can't just make yourself be creative just because it happens to be the time slot allotted for tunes. If I am working on something that is sounding good then I'll miss a few hours of sleep but if it;s meh I just close up shop. Sometimes I go months between finishing tunes, don't even get old people, if there is one piece of advice I can give you, it's that.

I've thought about this one a lot, I'm not even old, I'm 23, but I'm concerned about my attitude towards life.
I love starting a tune at 1am or 2am just as an excuse not to goto bed, just for the reason that I don't want to wake up the next day and worry about life again. I hate sleeping. Even though I only have to wake up for school, which is over soon, my average bed time is 4 or 5am.
I never need to stay up that late, ever, but I make all my tracks past midnight... its really weird. Sometimes I wonder if I'm even passionate about making music, or if I use it as an excuse not to sleep....

I'll be sitting there dicking about on the DSF and other probably porn-related webstites, and I'll finish my last smoke and think "time for bed" at like 2 or 3am. But then when I close dow all those IE windows and see Ableton staring at me from my desktop I always think 'I'll just have a quick peek at my latest tune', and inevitably stay up until about 5 or 6 working on a whole new tune and I just can't stop.
Hello, my name is Ben and I'm a sleep deprived produceaholic.

I get like 4/5 hrs of sleep tops. Weekday or weekend. Night time is the right time.
2-6am is all I need. I'll eventually die early though.

as long as i eat right, i can live off 4-6hrs of sleep on a regular basis
that said, if i've gotta physically work real hard, ie: skate film sesh or do load-ins/outs-stagework-rigging etc.. for a show, i need at least 6hrs with 7 being ideal.
getting older definitely has it's disadvantages, but it's better than the alternative

You guys are crazy that hate sleep, I absolutely love sleep and dont see it as a waste at all.
But when I was 27ish I used to stay up super late because inspiration just wouldn't let me not work on a song...Now I have been in a hardcore slump for years where I just seem to stare at a screen, and cant think of what to do next besides the same shit I always find myself doing. Losing data from crashes (fuckin PC) and getting sick of Reason (fuckin props), and having midi controllers shit the bed (fuckin m-audio) I think contributed to this state. (fuckin fuck)
Hopefully my plan to enter the world of hardware will remedy this. And I will once again be going to work on 2 hours of sleep and being stoked to get home and work on a project.
