Aik2 is he dubstep? or Grimm or what?

Post by amnesia » Tue Oct 18, 2005 12:29 pm

Just noticed that someone replied to my mentioning Atki2 for inclusion on Grime 3...they said Atki2 isnt really dubstep...well I a only going by his amazing mix Atki2 Session 2005...so what style is this then? Is it considered Grimm? I now starting to believe this is the same person who did Grimm dubs vol 1...right? I know nothing of Atki2 is there a discography at all?

I think Monkey Steak is him and some other guy

Personally I reckon it's still just 'dubstep' but with more IDM influence :D

Yeah Monkey Steak did Grim Dubs Vol 1. Atki2 is one half of Monkey Steak, his partner in crime being Hanuman. Atki2 releases through Shadetek.

Atki2/Monkey Steak kinda approach the whole grime/dubstep/sublow scene from a breakcore background which I think is refelected in their production. Like Bubonic says I think it's IDM infused grime. It's hard to define alot of this type of music though isn't it due to the sounds still being really fresh and lots of producers are developing their own niche's. I think the Grim tag is bit of a wind up really from Werk (their label), but I do like the term!

Just remembered, Atki2's got two Bristol gigs coming soon... 2nd November at monkeyknifefight and 15th Dec at Ruffnek Diskotek. Both at Timbuk2. Monkey Steak are back in Bristol in January I believe ;)

the tune i've heard is off the Shadetek Records Dudes EP, and it's sort of like a more stilted version of the kind of dubs Slimzee used to play a few years back - really ravy and intense, not sparse like dubstep at all
