EP's... why?

This might seem like a pointless post, but is anyone else slightly annoyed with artists releasing in demand tracks on EP's? For example, I want to bag seeeriouss by noah d, and ganja dub by sukh knight. I'm not really that fussed about the other tracks on both of these EP's, but if i want these im gonna have to fork out 20 quid for what is essentially 2 tracks! Maybe it's just me but I actually find this quite annoying?

would you rather fork out £7 for a one sided 12"

the rest of the sukh knight ep is dirty tho!
'beneath your blouse' is huge!

what irks me is when a good tune gets the flip side @ 33rpm with another tune. that's weak.

£7 for a double sided 12" with 2 tracks I would definitely play - then yeah. I dunno, it seems to me like some artists will put a hugely in demand tune on an EP with some mediocre tracks just so they can charge more for it? Maybe I'm looking at it the wrong way, but I'd much rather save the £3 off an EP and buy a double sided 12" with 2 big tracks that I know I would play.

With e.p's your getting more for your money , fair enough u might not want the other tracks but one day u might dig out old vinyl for a mix n discover sick tunes you didnt like/want before , always good to have more tunes ?

Yeah that's true. I'm more inclined to fork out for the Sukh Knight EP than the Noah D one, although everyone knows that Seeeriouss is a must have tune... I was shocked that Goblin got the flip side to Sinners - that's another promo that I missed out on too though :(

I'd like to think that, if an artist is taking the time to release an E.P. - then at least the tracks within the release do not seem mediocre to them.

What's not to your taste may be to the taste of others.

I've never released a track I didn't like personally - whether other people like it or not is their perogative

That's actually something I considered whilst I was writing that post! If someone called one of my tracks off an EP mediocre I'd be pretty pissed off - but at the same time I'd feel like I was ripping people off by putting what is essentially a must have tune on a higher priced EP. Maybe mediocre was the wrong word. There's nothing wrong with the other tracks on the EP, but to me it seems like it's a bit of a money spinning move.

Sorry, it's not a moan topic - just a polite topic of conversation.

If there was a digital release of the 2 tracks I was after then fair enough, however from quite thorough research it appears that there isn't. Plus I'd rather pay the £10 for each EP than the £500 for Serato in order to play the MP3's you speak of.

Clearly I'm just a tight-arsed moaning bastard (that won't give the undoubtedly deserving artists my money) who's opinion doesn't count?

exactly.

always better to have more, especially if your playing out. try to have something for everybody.

also, both EP's mentioned are must haves in my opinion :)

There's no way I'm doubting this, and both will be bagged anyway, I just wondered if anyone else shared my view on the subject!

ive lost count how many times ive bought an EP for a certain track but a few months later i have ending up prefering one of the other tunes to the track i original bought it for.

Have a bit more faith in the producer, and you might find some amazing music, that just didnt click as quick as said anthem.

is there a good reason why people press up 10" singles instead of 12s?

i mean you obviously use less plastic, but i thought the costs of pressing a single were mostly in the mastering/cutting process?

i hate fucking around with a 10"s on deck, especially if they are slightly warped because you can't hold the edge of the record like you can with a 12". and yea i don't own any dubplates, but that's not the reason why.

not just EP's though, I buy releases ORIGINALLY for the A side, then find the B side & am like WHHHATT!!!????

especially with the TRG release on Tempa (Harajuku is nuts)

and Ramadanman "Carla" (Offal is the favourite)

It's in stock at some shop, can't remember the name of it though... the one tunnidge recommended in a thread.
