evening, just a question or two about decks.
I've been listening to alot of dubstep in the past year or so now and ive seen people i know really do well and play some really good mixes and i was just wondering about costs of becoming a dj?
And ive noticed that the price of decks to play vinyl can be quite high but cdj decks are slightly lower but most dubstep is on vinyl.
So would it be wise to save up around £450 for a decent set of decks to play vinyl or buy cdj decks?

Vinyl costs a lot, tt's are fairly priced
Cdj's cost a lot, cd's are extremely cheap

If you want to do this in terms of money then cdj's are the obvious choice long-term, you can get a lot of digital tunes as well as digital exclusive tracks that the vinyl guys wont get. You can also play your own stuff without paying the £30 quid to get a plate cut.

Vinyl is what I use, I didn't get into this to dj I got into it because the moment I started spinning this stuff I was hooked, I am broke btw

I like the Serato/Traktor option. Two second-hand 1200s, plus the interface for either program. The upside is you can then play either vinyl or used the Timecode vinyl to control mp3s which are significantly cheaper than buying LPs. Downside is you're then DJing with mp3s.

I don't want to start a whole big deal, but I think most people on here will say vinyl sounds better than mp3s, especially with dubstep.

get the best of both worlds and buy a Traktor Duo/Scratch kit. Vinyl wasn't a viable choice for me last year and that kit has been amazing. It also means I can spin my own shit for nothing like Lowpass said.

that being said, i'm gonna be pur-chase-ing some decks this year as i've now kind of outgrown digital mixing.

most people are talking out their ass unless they think most pa rigs when playing out are audiophile quality or even stereo

too right.

at a club vinyl being played with shitty needles is what compared to digital? most DJs and electronic musicians who cling to vinyl are doing so for sentimental reasons. full on real audiophiles would be horrified at how they treat their records. then again those guys tend to be lunatics.

Most likely going to go for the traktor scratch duo option once ive got abit more money saved up and then go for some 2nd hand technics.
