UK Funky in the USA Roll Call

Post by contakt321 » Sat Sep 05, 2009 3:17 pm

Just curious, who and how many folks are playing Funky here in the states? Also, where at?

I play it here in NYC, we have a monthly the first Thursday of the month called TURRBOTAX® that's primarily Funky / 2 Step / Future Garage.

Who else is?

I think it's fair to still call it uk funky

When I play Southern HipHop I consider it Southern HipHop still even though I'm playing it in the north (of the uk)

Oy. That's it? Wow.

Cromie, I will try to remember to post a note about TURRBOTAX® in here for the next one. This last Thursday was crazy, got crowded around 12:30 and started going off around 2ish. We rocked it til 4.

I've been playing UK Funky in Boston for a little over a year now. G Notorious and myself play it out once a month at our nights Dubwise and Left Turn. We did a a mix at the end of last year to kick things off. Check it out here -----> http://www.soulchampion.com/sounds/soul ... odcast.php

definitely playing funky, but not close to ONLY funky. A lot of the sub swara material is in 130 land these days, between dubstep and organic, syncopated 130 stuff... funky definitely has a place.

I play a lot of funky in Austin Texas... not strictly funky tho...

been on the conga world tip for while so it ends up being a not so random combo of tech house, funky, dutch house, and dubstep.

one observation is that most people seem to not like it... lots of complaints about it sounding flat or not progressive enough. tunes with vocals seem to go down better.

ramadanman came through and SMASHed it a few weeks back. most ladies i've ever seen in the club for the "dubstep" night. lots of bitter hardcore dubstep fans seemed to be miffed about the house music situation.
