Was wondering if anyone could tell me if this drum pattern is triplets, and if you could recreate this pattern in easily and how to make this bouncing type sound of hi hats. ive spent like 2 hours trying remake the same hi hat sound in this clip but have had 0 success.

(i slowed it down about 15 sec in so you can hear the hi hats a little more slowly and clearly)

Is it triplets? im pretty sure there are 2 similar sounding hi hats or maybe even really quiet shakers. This bouncing type of hi hat sound is something ive been tryin to recreate since i started learnin production a few monnths ago and generally have not been very successful. I also have still not been able to how to make a good sounding pattern with triplets..
Ive watched a few tutorials and have seen ppl using things like swing or other similar process's that slightly change the timing of when the hi hats hit but dont know how to use it to my advantage.. any help would be great

what software are you using? do you know about groove templates?

im using fl and no i dont.

concerning groove templates: if you have some notes in the piano roll for instance straight 16th notes and you want them to shuffle just select them, hit ALT+Q and select the shuffle groove template. there you can adjust the amount, length, etc. of the shuffle easily.

If you've slowed down the beat, why not recreate the pattern by placing each hit by hand (with snapping switched off)?

You can always 4x4ize the loop after by making sure the first beat hits dead on 4x4 each time.

The other thing to remember is that not all music is 4x4 anyways. Don't be afraid to put out tunes that aren't 4x4!

probably something like this (super simplified)



they are syncopated so have the stronger velocity on the offbeat

then a triplet leading into the last off beat highhat

you will probably need 4 or 5 sets of high hat lines doing slightly different things tho
