Layer a couple of synths and sounds even vocals, blur, time stretch, walla.
My best advice to you is to piss around with as many sounds as you can and with time stretching and right reverbs and chorus you'll make some cracking dronescapes.
If you are lazy, buy a rompler like Omnisphere that has lovely drones

The temptation to make an anti-American joke is strong but anyways... A drone is a long sustained sound (note or chord if you want to get all musical about it) that underlies most, if not all, of a musical piece. Wikipedia will probably do a better job of explaining it than I.
