My friend was playing me some last night seems interesting, anyone know who I should check out in that scene right now?

i dont know what you would consider 'futurejazz'

The Sonar Kollektiv label was putting a lot of great stuff out a couple of years ago, but I've lost touch with their recent releases

Cinematic, Jazzanova & Skalpel are more like Downbeat Jazz...like instrumental hiphop, slowed down with jazz samples, ie NinjaTune etc...the suggestions i gave were actual jazz orchestras with a futuristic vibe about them, mostly japanese...let me know what you are looking for & i can suggest many more either way...~jazzAdikt :wink:

What you reccomended so far has been great man, really enjoying it.
I wouldnt mind some stuff thats like Anti Social Entertainment, but just not dubstep haha more on the jazz vibe.

The kilimanjaro dark jazz ensemble?
Most of the jazzy stuff I listen to is fromNinja Tune, and it's all essentially hip-hop with trumpets.

Listen to some real jazz. Check out Polar Bear and Get The Blessing. Shit, those lads can play.

Slow breakbeats overlaid with trumpet samples isn't even music. It's just background music for adverts. It bears the same relation to real jazz that a lukewarm cup of tea does to an orgy.

Jazzanova, The Cinematic Orchestra, Jaga Jazzist and various others rely on full bands fused with DJs. It's not always just 2 men with a bucket of samples.

Yeah, I know. I'm not bothered about whether they have live musicians or not (if that bothered me I wouldn't listen to dubstep, jungle, techno etc). In fact I can imagine jazz being done entirely on laptops if it was done right. I don't find any of those bands exciting apart from Cinematic Orchestra who are pretty good. Jazzanova are really bland.

You're right no one was hurt, though I'll admit I felt a little dissed. I feel very strongly about my lukewarm orgy tea, and I feel the idea that it's not really music because of reasons not explained is ridiculous.

Watever though, everyone's entitled to their opinion, I'm over it. Though an IMO is always helpful

Tacospheros - The Bad Plus are a great band and funny with it. They covered The Pixies as well.

Prince Blimey is a great album. They went a bit straighter on some of the later records. Some of Acoustic Ladyland's music reminds me of them.
