Brooklyn, New York - Restaurants, clubs and possible gigs?

Hello
I'm visiting New York for a week (October 1-7) staying at the YMCA in Greenpoint. First of all, regarding the YMCA, it's dead cheap and I've heard it's alright but if anyone heard anything else please tell me.
Besides that, I'd appreciate any hints on nice restaurants and bars both in Manhattan and in Brooklyn as well as any nice shops I should visit when I'm there.
Also, I DJ dubstep on a regular basis in Gothenburg, Sweden where I'm from (we have a radio show every week, http://www.bassline-express.com/radio plus I DJ out pretty much once a week) and if anyone is interested in booking me for pretty much nothing (flights and accommodation is already covered) let me know. I'd love to showcase some Swedish/Nordic artists.
Any and all hints are welcome, this will be my 3rd time in NYC so it would be nice to find some sweet spots away from the main attractions.
