EZ all,
I have been lurking here awhile to get info on new tunes, you guys' recommendations etc. and as a result I have been buying loads of new vinyl and love them all. I just want to know some tips on vinyl care, and how do some vinyl's get screwed up? Is it just through playing them loads or rewinds or through not taking care of them? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Playing them eventually wears them out, get surface crackles etc
Vinyl can warp in heat so never leave your records leaning against a radiator or anything that heats up, also it can warp if you have them on say a shelf but have them angled to keep them propped up.
Keep them so the opening of the sleeve is on the side, if you have them with the opening at the top dust collects.

It isnt going to do the record any good but i think as long as you are sensible/careful with rewinds then it wont cause you too much bother. Just try not to do it too often with favourites or records that would be difficult to replace.

well caring for vinyl isnt genre specific... doing a 'rewind' is no different than when your queuing.. your still spinning the record backwards... ideally its best for your records to not backspin at all... thank god for elliptical needles =]

I thought elliptical needles caused more playing damage because they're so "deep" in the tracks?

just do a simple renters insurance and set the coverage accordingly high. I pay something like 100 Euros a year and I've set the coverage to 75,000 Euros, I think.

for DJing: definitely, for just playing records: no, you will actually have better sound quality since the needle goes deeper into the groove.

I currently use white microfiber cloths, 3 for about 70p from tescos, is it worth spending £6 on one of these brushes? also what are peoples oppinions on the solution/liquid cleaner you can get...?

The cleaner is actually pretty good. When you have a record with a lot of surface noise you can play it wet a couple of times and the surface noise will actually go away a little. Best results are actually cleaner and a icrofibre cloth as you described. However it doesn't really work when there's a lot of dust inside the grooves. then you're better off simply playing the record front to back a couple of times and then clean it. I'm taking about a dirt level where you would play the record and dust/fat/grimy shit would come to surface after you played it.
those carbon brushes are ok to quickly clean a record from dust when you pulled it out the sleeve. I'd buy one, should last you a lifetime.
