Hi, I was thinking of getting some alesis mk2 passive monitors (http://www.dv247.com/studio-equipment/a ... itor--9491) But i am not sure what amp would best suite them, Cheers

I am having the very same problem. Unsure of what kind of amp to go for and if certain types would make a differenc eto the sound.

You could go with the active Alesis....the built-in amp should be matched perfectly.

Otherwise, you need an amp that matches the watts and ohm. I think for those speakers you need an amp that runs 120 watt each side @ 4 ohms. I wouldn't know what brand of amp to suggest though, I guess if you're dead set on getting an external amp the options are endless..

Depends how much you want to spend, and as mentioned above the possible choices are vast.

Power wise you'd be looking to get something about 1.5x the speaker's output to be able to handle any peaks in the power drawn by them, although unless your cranking them and screaming ten bells of shit out them it's not really necessary. Any decent HiFi amp of about 50-60watts/channel @ 8r for example should be able to run them happily at comfortable listening volumes.

I'd recommend looking at Rotel, Cambridge Audio, or Marantz off the top of my head.

depends on budget. at the lower end of things, alesis and samson amps aren't bad.

midrange, finding a used hafler (my mode d'emploi), crown, or qsc can be great.

if you've got money falling out of your ears, brystons are nice. insanely expensive, but nice.
