Pandas - To be or not to be?

One of the BBCs nature correspondants, Chris Packham, recently said in a radio interview that the Panda should be allowed to go extinct, and that we should stop spending millions of pounds on trying to keep it in existence.

The cute and cuddly looking creature, the 'mascot' of the Worldwide Fund for Nature, is (,in my opinion,) a pretty lame creature. It can only eat bamboo, and because it doesn't really digest the bamboo vey well, it has to eat shitloads to stay alive. Add, to the very specialised diet, the fact that they don't seem to be big fans of reproducing, and it seems like a recipe for extinction.

So - are us humans completely at fault? Should our destruction of the Panda's habitat oblige us to try and keep it alive, despite the fact that it may well have gone extinct regardless of our involvment? Or should we just let it die out completely and free up time and resources to keep more deserving species alive?

Personally, I think they should probably be left to go extinct. What do you think?

I don't know, I think if we didn't exist, they probably would. They'd have shit loads more bamboo to eat, so I think we should try to keep them alive.

See that's the thing. If they diversified a bit then they might have been alright. Still though, the fact remains that they're adverse to shagging, and all the sandwiches in the world aren't gonna help a species that doesn't have sex.

Left to go extinct. I have no doubts that humans contributed to their decline, but from the facts you've given, it's natural selection exactly. Don't shag, don't reproduce, don't live. Simple.

I've been saying this for fucking ages. What is the Panda's fucking problem? Seriously? It's picky about food, it's picky about living conditions, it's picky about who it wants to fuck, it's picky about when it wants to fuck and it makes it so difficult for itself to fuck (some weird back to back business) that it would much rather have a nice sit down than get on with fucking.

Seriously.... they are one of the shittest animals going, Darwin would've told us to fuck them off decades ago.

FUCK OR DIE YOU MORONS

To be fair though, there's millions of us. We can afford to be picky. For each individual panda, the fate of its entire species rests on it getting laid. Maybe it's the pressure of the situation that gives them bedroom troubles?

People have even produced Panda Porn to get them in the mood... they're fucking sexless mate. I've no idea how they evolved like that, but it's almost certainly the result of some sick puritanical genetic engineering project in a ridiculously high tech past civilisation.

It's like they got kicked out of Eden without biting the fucking apple.

couldn't agree more. there's something to be said for keeping the species going in captivity but if it's incapable of surviving in the wild despite all our best efforts then surely there comes a point where it's not worth bothering any more? some species are unquestionable forced to extinction as a result of man made intervention and destroying of habitats and so on but the panda's problem isn't man. the panda's problem is that it's utterly shit

Bamboo is massively abundant and not hard to grow. The chinese government pays most of those millions keeping them alive. A government with almost $2 trillion in the bank. I imagine the interest on that money more than covers it. They're also a tourist attraction that generates alot of revenue for the country and the panda's picture if fekin everywhere in this country (I currently live here, 1 year only please). So yea, saying we should let them go extinct is fuckwittedry of the highest order.

The queen produces massive tourist revenue for our country.
Her picture is fekin everywhere.

I think she should be extinct also.
