"punk" methodology in dubstep?

Post by sek [espionage] » Wed Jan 11, 2006 3:15 pm

Am I alone in sensing this?

Something that really draws me towards this music is its real grass roots approach to things. (my own perception of course)
ItÂ’s rarely the quality of production that turns my head but rather the unique groove created.
One of the main reasons I eventually lost interest in dnb was this preverbal pissing contest production wiseÂ… (how loud can my tune be.. how many edits can I fit in one bar.. how twisted can my reese be?)

That “one up” mentality is certainly one of the primary factors in driving a genre to evolve but it’s no doubt a fine line to walk as well.

Add your thoughts if you like.. but for the most part I guess IÂ’m just ramblingÂ…

'punk mentality' has been such a loaded term over the years that its actually starting to sound a bit trite. i think we need a new name for it. this IS a wonderful, friendly, welcoming, self-contained scene. lets call it a dubstep mentality :)
