No contest here... 7 years in Dud city myself. Love that town.
@Manilla: If you are going to VIc, I can't comment on the Uni at all - but I can probably give you some pointers about Wellington if you've got questions.

erm.. bring a kite.

In my eyes Wellington is the greatest city in NZ (excluding Christchurch). Good choice.

A healthy Dubstep scene also - Just ask Thief!

Welli's a pretty accepting town bro, I wouldn't worry. Fair bit of dubstep going on, heaps of Dnb still (internationals most weekends), pretty good night life though the good music is restricted to a handful of clubs. It's fucking windy wet and freezing at the moment, but summers usually ok. We do get a lot of wind though...

The central city's pretty compact so it's a breeze to get around. Some awesome coastline on your doorstep too. I've been here about 5 years now and still loving it.

Yea Sandwiches is good (not as good as all the DnB heads make out tho  ), awesome clarity but lacks the sub pressure to do dubstep justice. We do a lot of our parties at Garden Club (great space, but it's a fucking dive, weak bar staff etc.) as they let us customise the sound how we want, bring in 21's etc. Definitely the biggest sound in Wellington when done right...

Oh yeah and the top floor is a gay bar, but don't let that put you off (tho there was tranny juice leaking from upstairs almost onto the decks when we did Plastician there. Grim! ).

Dress code for pretty much all the bars that do good music is relaxed as. Hoodies, trainers, caps etc all sweet. Black shoes and a shirt if you want to go to any of the more standard top 40 meat market type establishments... (not my thing).

Couldn't comment on whether kiwi women like Americans tho sorry...
