Ah everyone makes this mistake, if your getting turntables I think its important you save up and get a good pair of new direct drive ones and not second hand, or else in the long run you'll be paying more than they are worth in repairs.

I know its not particularly kl, but traktor pro / duo is awesome its like £150/£70
got everything you need in a laptop, mixer, 4 decks too many effects and you can jump around tracks by pressing buttons... good shit,
also on my barrage of being an NI salesman, their interfaces are pretty good too, around 100 quid for your simple 2 out and they have ones that go up to 8

Can you really get any respect as a dj using traktor?

this is a tough one nowadays
i started on a pair of plastic numarks, however my mate had a cheap setup of some newer numarks and they were pretty solid, handled scratching n were nicer to mix on than some club setup haha

theyre 200 each tho, maybe see if u can score a bargain somewhere theres a few ebay stores with them at 120 or so.
cheap mixer will do you till you need more from it.
there are benefits to things like traktor, especially with a little controller with pitch n mixer functions etc. but u still need a laptop to run it live.
altho vinyl is very expensive

I bought Numark TTX1s.
I regret it.
They're amazing decks. Don't get me wrong, but they just feel different than techs. It always takes me a shit mix to properly warmed up when I play out.
Save up. By techs. YOUR ONLY OPTION!!!! There are technically better decks out there but everywhere you go is going to have techs. You want to feel like you're at home when you go out - comfortable and on gear you know the feel of.

you could just get two flat cardboard boxes, preferably from ikea, stick on two plastic plates ( more durability when scratching than china)
now that you have your turntables setup, i found i get the most control using a HEMP box with safetypins, you feel almost s one as your setup.
Or you can just get a nano kontrol for £45 and Traktor Duo For £75 and have as much control as a £500 setup
It might not be cool, but is dj ing abt being kl?

obviously it would be better to get technics or maybe pioneer cdjs, but if u have a macbook and a midi controller already ala E then why not?
cheap decks will do but theyll never last you forever, after a year or two anyway youll want to upgrade, but maybe ull be in a better position to upgrade in a while.
totally depends really

i thought it was meant to make people jump up and down silly, and surely you should do it the best way not the coolest way?

Think that is naive.
